The Galant remains largely unchanged for the 2001 model year. The sedan now meets Low Emission Vehicle standards and Mitsubishi's LATCH child safety restraint system has been added to all models. The 3.0 liter V-6 generates 195 horsepower and 205 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy Fuel economy is estimated at 21/28 mpg with the four, and 20/27 mpg with the V-6. A four-speed automatic is the only transmission option. The Galant may not be as popular as some of its Japanese competitors, but most reviewers contend that this sedan offers an exceptional value. The Galant's strengths include distinct styling, an inviting interior and overall road manners. Common consumer and reviewer issues include exterior noise intrusion, tight rear quarters and the lack of a manual transmission option.
