After a complete redesign for 2000, the 2001 Monte Carlo featured a few changes, including standard traction control on all trims. The base engine on the LS was a 3.4-liter V6 rated at 180 horsepower, and the SS standard was a 3.8-liter V6 rated at 200 horsepower.
Fuel economy for both trims was good, with the LS getting 20/32 city/highway, and the LS only slightly worse at 20/29.
Drivers in general loved their cars, citing the powerful engine and optional luxuries, such as cushy leather seats. Many have said that as their cars age, the problems can increase exponentially, including gear shift problems and catalytic converter expirations.

(38 reviews)all in all this car is a great driver and has good power how it comes stock. The 3.8L v6 is a upgrade able motor but it is affordable. Most of the upgrades/mods are fairly easy to do. As long as you keep up on your maintenance it is a very reliable vehicle.
"Wolfy" is happiest when all 4 paws are running flat out! [Thank goodness for cruise!] I love this car! Comfort. quiet [unless the radio is cranked up] regular maintenance without major needs. :) Everything about her is fantastic, handling, acceleration, stopping....she's just a lot of fun!
This car is great. Quick, Quiet, Reliable, Stylish, Spacious and Comfortable. But it is so boring to drive. I guess I'm used to driving my Fiero. I recommend this car to someone who isn't concerned with a spirited drive. It's not a true SS by definition, but an all around good car to own.
I enjoy the sunroof, an added bonus :) She performs very well on the highway, as the Monte Carlo is an SS edition so it moves through traffic quite easily. Nice V6 engine under the hood. The entertainment options are a little dated in the vehicle, but the driving experience is great.
i like the handling and when you wanna get up and go.... you can go. great gas mileage leather interior low maintenance cost quality built car it's a nice car, has a lot of miles on it and not many problems
