Used 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP for Sale near Chattanooga, TN
4.5 Overall rating
(21 reviews)performance 270 hp-300 lbs. torque, v-6 supercharged and has 17 inch chrome wheels and fully functional ram-air, exterior is a pearl silver and interior has black stitched leather, gets 26-28 mpg highway and like 18-20 city
I love it! Its the best car I have owned so far. Performance is good. Ive always owned a pontiac and they have never let me down. Its a fun car to drive. The fact that I have a supercharged makes it even better!
The performance of the car is fantastic. It has awesome acceleration, its looks brilliant, and it is very comfortable. It does have weak spots. For example, the build quality is a bit lacking, especially in the rust prevention, it seems to love to rust around the trunk(by the spoiler) and along the rear fenders. Other than some annoying rattles the car performs and runs well.
Performance; for a 3.8L supercharged sedan, it will launch fairly well, shifts nicely and can run up to desired speed quickly. Breaking is handled well once you upgrade to a slightly more aggressive pad. The major downfall with the performance side of the GTP is the handling, it is soft, with quite a large amount of body roll for a "performance" sedan. Build Quality; As with any modern American car it seems the list of squeaks and rattles could be almost endless. On the repair end, I must say that I have had to rebuild the transmission twice in the last year and a half. The second time, was six months after the first, and the clutch packs had hardly had a chance to break-in. Appearance; For a car designed in the late 90's it still looks great with more modern cars on the road today. The interior could have been laid out a little better, but overall, it is a pretty well designed car. Cost of ownership; This is where my real problem has been, each transmission was about $1400 to rebuild. Gas mileage is horrid in the city, and considering that is where most of my driving takes place, this is not a good thing. City mileage tends to hold stead around 19 mpg, but this can be redeemed if you do a fair amount of highway driving, because then the engine comes into it's own, and runs very economically averaging around 28 - 30 mpg. Which for a V6 at 75+ mph, is pretty good.
This was my best car at the time. Bough it in 04/2000. Very powerful could beat jut about any car on the road including BMW 540 and Mercedes 500 for a fraction of their price! This car was well built and fun to drive. Only week point was that brakes would easily overheat when driven aggresively (which the engine just begged for) and wear prematurely.
