Overview

The 1999 RL received a few exterior changes to bring it up to a level appropriate for a competitor to Lexus. The headlights were reshaped and replaced with xenon high-intensity discharge lights. Fog lights were now integrated into the front fender.
The 1999 RL also had improvements aimed at making the ride safer. Side airbags for both driver and passenger were now standard.
With all these improvements, the object of the biggest complaints from drivers got worse: mileage was now 18 city/24 highway (down from 19/25). The car still requires premium fuel.
Indeed, reviewers of this vehicle continue to complain about the gas-guzzling aspect to it. They also don't like that the CD changer is still in the trunk, rather than in-dash. Conversely, they love the smooth ride, tight handling, and responsive braking.

I liked just about everything about this vehicle. My kids liked it and I liked driving it. The seats were very comfortable for long rides. Dual memory is great for my shorter GF for when she drives the car. She liked the RL over her 2008 Honda Accord EXL!
