Overview

The 1997 Honda Odyssey is the same vehicle as the previous year - no changes. With a five-door design that includes four passenger swing-out doors, like a car, it really is designed more like a tall station wagon. Most owners reviewed prefer this design to other vans with sliding doors. The 1997 Odyssey has a 140-hp, 2.2-liter engine.
The overall rating from owner reviewers is 9.1 / 10.0. Owners really enjoy the looks and drivability of the Odyssey minivan. Most drivers have well over 150,000 miles on their vehicles and expect that by staying with the regular maintenance schedule, this minivan will run forever. This vehicle drives more like a regular car, and has no recognizable blind spots for the driver. It has great gas mileage and, with the back seat folded down, terrific cargo space.
There were hardly any owner reviews that pointed out shortcomings for the 1997 Honda Odyssey. The most significant problem is a lack of power from the 2.2-liter engine. Other complaints included a not-so high tech radio and it is very noisy on the highway.

Van always handled well, got good mileage and was generally very reliable. I am getting a 1998 and will see if that lasts as long. So far, the 1998 is proving to be just as reliable as the 1997. Even the Sun roof works on the 1998! Really drives like a car, more than any Van that I have driven. Good investment!

This thing is a boat on wheels. It has tons of room for all shapes and sizes. It has several configurations for seating and storage. Inside and out this van has what others want. (This is evident by the certain styling cues being integrated into other manufacturer vans.) The rear seating is complimented by a entertainment system that offers everything from a dvd player to plugs for the latest video game consoles.
