Best performance. Once you tighten up the engine, tune a few things, add a couple components (professional), then you got yourself a true champion. Maintenance is not that much unless you plan on running the car everyday. Very fun too drive.

GM created a classic when they discontinued this great car. last of the full size rear whell marquee. balanced suspension and engine performance. very clean burning engine. takes turns with very little sway breaking the typical "boat" handling reputation of large cars. holds value better most cars. i can find a fault for this car except wishing GM put in a big block motor.

I've owned my SS for about 6 years now. I bought it with 8500 mi on it and now has 44,000. I recently did ALOT of high performance mods to my car. I researched for about 6 months before I started my mods. I like everything about this car overall and what I didn't like I just made better. The stock performance for a 4,200 lb car was great. There were some issues with the build that was questionable however there are fixes for alot of them.(ie. odometer, window tilting, water in MAF) I didn't buy this car to gripe that it can drink some fuel. I bought it to have fun! Really if you stop to think about it, after first buying my car I did 3 mods - Hypertech download, air intake, exhaust. I was getting around 23 miles on the hwy. Now for a 4,200lb high performance LT1 - Not to bad! I have alot of hands on with my car not to mention my younger brother and mother had one also. Between theirs and mine I can say I'm pretty knowledgeable with 96 Impala SS.

This Impala SS has been my highway attack vehicle. Returns 25mpg on regular and with enough room to stretch out. The sofa front lounge area should have been designed for transportation. At speed or in the corners she performs. The faster you run her the lower to the ground she gets, no wonder cops loved the C-9-1 Impalas.
