The Lexus GS 300 debited as a late 1993 model and became the bridge between the flagship LS 400 and the entry level ES 300. The GS 300 took its name from its 3.0 liter, six cylinder, 220 horsepower engine. A four-speed automatic transmission was standard, and optional features were limited in the initial production run. Standard features included dual airbags, antilock all-disc brakes, a power tilt/telescopic steering column, and CFC-free air conditioning with automatic temperature control. Drivers hated the cup holders - a common complaint in many luxury sedans where they seem to be added as an afterthought. But interior comfort, dash design and handling all got high marks.
