(12 reviews)Looking for a premium sports car that wont break the bank? Low mileage, cared for examples are easy to find to add to your garage. This is one muscle car that wont drive you crazy with maintenance. The power, handling, creature comforts, styling, combine to make driving exciting. Performance tires, 4 wheel discs, traction control, FX3 suspension, all work in tandem to cement the vehicle to the tarmac. Parts are easy to find online, and there are forums/ videos that help with questions and issues. Being American made, it can be serviced anywhere. The overall motoring impression is visceral, raw, involving, the driver is one with the machine, not isolated from it, especially with the 6 speed ZF transmission. Mileage is a respectable 25-29mpg on premium, performance and mileage suffer with lower octane. With over 300hp there is plenty of power on tap, 5 sec. to 60mph. 14 sec. quarter mile, and traction control keeps handling quick, safe, responsive.
this car is so cool! Six speed, FX3 susp., targa top, very nice. The performance is out of this world. Like any sports car the cost of owenership is very high. It is so fun to drive, I Love It
It's just a nice car to ride and drive. I'm a conservative driver and spend a lot of time on SoCal freeways. Averages 26 mpg for me.
I purchased this simply because I always wanted a Corvette. Polo Green Metallic with a beige leather interior and the Targa removable roof panel which was perfect for Southern California. I chose the automatic transmission for the freeways which are always stop and go out here and the car provided lots of driving pleasure. On the positive side, the LT-1 V8 was highly responsive and combined with the tuned port injection, propelled the vehicle to any speed you wanted effortlessly. Shifts were not as crisp as I would like and in the hot summer weather, the radiator proved to be too small to meet the cooling needs of the engine and transmission. The all digital gauges were a nice touch, but analog would have been nicer and more in keeping with the traditional Corvette style. To solve the high temperature issues, we installed a low temperature thermostat with bypass, and also a performance chip that started the cooling fans at a lower temperature and improved the shift points of the transmission, while offering a performance boost to the engine as well, while still meeting the California CARB smog requirements. One problem that was more difficult and costly to resolve was the distributor vent issue, in that the distributor was designed so that moisture could end up inside the unit and once in, no way to dry out. That little problem was about $800-$1,000 fix since it required major down time, a radiator pull, etc. Unfortunately, unless you or your mechanic knew how to prevent this from recurring, after the costly repair you were likely to be seeing this ugly repair happen again in the future. I understand there were aftermarket distributors and kits to preclude this, but it's unlikely the dealer was going to install these. (I didn't have the dealer do the above work, so you know I only had the work done once!) We did cruise Route 66 with the car, for after all, what's driving a Corvette without cruising Route 66 when both are readily available? Yes, we did play 60's tunes at the same time too! All-in-all, a great car. Not much trunk space, especially with the Targa top stowed in its' slots in the hatchback. Enough for a weekend bag and lots of fun for a couple out to enjoy the sun and a trip across the Mother Road, Route 66.
