This was a big car, to be sure, but under the hood sat a powerful 4.2-liter, single-overhead-cam V8 that generated 201 hp, enough to keep this car humming happily down the highway at speeds guaranteed to get you to your destination on time.
The '91 420SEL was virtually unchanged from the previous model year, but that doesn't mean you'd ne lacking anything. In fact, luxury and power are the last things you'd lack with this automobile (which perhaps might cost you a bit more at the gas pump, especially if you leave the air conditioning running all day). Standard features start with anti-lock brakes, leather seats, power windows and brakes, and airbags for the driver and passenger.
Beyond that, this car has just about everything you'd expect in a roomy luxury automobile, including automatic climate control, bucket seats, power telescopic steering wheel, cruise control, rear window defroster, power heated mirrors, automatic climate control, and alloy wheels.

(5 reviews)This car has remained in great shape. Garaged most of it's life and still looks new. This car has been well maintained.....it has 235,000 miles on it and still runs wonderfully. I put in a new transmission at 212,000 miles....so I will probably get another 100k miles out of it...and I plan to.
So far the only car that I have owned and I love it. It is solid, safe, has a lot of power, and at the same time is an elegant luxury Sedan. I am still learning the different features on the car but I know most of them. If there is one thing that I have learned form this car is don't mess with the Germans when it comes to cars.
I'm the 2nd owner of a Low-mileage(139,014 as of 5/7/07) '91 420SEL I'm still getting used to this ride. However, a few qualities were self-evident when purchased. The engineering/design philosophy is superior to all industry competitors. Function perfected = unique form. It's Safety Features, inherent finesse onroad, smooth feel, & Luxury EVERYTHING.......are a delight at all times.
love the car its a beauty noproblems except new waterpump performancenails it everytime not lackin there the only problem im having is if i dont drive the car for say four or five days the battery goes dead cant even guess why it does that who has answers for me?
Just ran my 87 420sel to Yucatan. 2900mls took 8 days. 178000 mls on it. Changed the chain guides before the trip and found the top guide in two pieces (phew) glad I caught that problem before the trip. It ran for hours at Texas speeds of 80mph. Great car.
