Timing is everything. Unfortunately, Chrysler had terrible timing with its Dodge Challenger. Stricter environmental regulations and increasing gas prices pretty much marked the end of the muscle car segment in the early 1970s, the exact time that Chrysler introduced its Challenger. After five years of so-so and then miserable sales, 1974 was the last year for the Dodge Challenger.
The 1974 models were virtually unchanged since 1972 and its sad face grille. The 360 V8 engine replaced the 340 mid-year 1973 and was the only model that exhibited any power, at 245 bhp. The standard model was still the 318, 150 bhp. Only 16,000 Challengers were made this year, more than half of what was produced in 1973.
The Challenger would reappear as a Japanese-made coupe in 1978. Today, the rarity of the 1970-74 models has increased its value in nostalgic collectors' eyes. The old cliche rings true -- they just don't make 'em like that anymore.

(12 reviews)Performance-Handles Great! Build Quality-It needed lots of repairing!Pretty good now Apperarance-Now awesome! Before not so awesome Cost of ownership-Thank god I married a bodyman and a car lover mileage not so hot,but well worth it! Fun Factor- What do you think? Would I recommend this car to a friend- For Sure!
For the 23yrs I owned this car, I have driven it for 18yrs. The only time i have had to do repairs was for normal wear and tear. This car happens to be one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. Never had a breakdown,Never left me stranded. I still own this Vehicle today. Biggest regret, Family size grew and I bought a van, left challenger sitting in yard for 5yrs(in NY). Now in need of body work.
Just finished painting it, looks amazing for a very unprofessional job. Engine is working incredibly, but the tranny could use a bit of work. Love to drive it around town, but it would be nice ig it had a stereo in it or something along those lines. Also some headers and maybe a new carburetor.
good performance with very good acceleration bad braking and nice handling it don t need repair both interior and exterior styling is new brand it make 20litres by 130km and its to mutch fun to drive in all condition of the roads
Bought from thrid owner in Oregon, needed lots of work. Fun to do, no real damage, some rust but not bad, great looking done. Always gets notice and pics take going down the road and shows. Fantastic to have around.
