The 1964 Ford Thunderbird received a major restyling, changing it from the rocket-ship-like models seen earlier in the '60s. Unfortunately, the less-rocket-like engine resulted in the Thunderbird falling off of muscle car enthusiasts' lists.

A 6.4-liter, 390-ci V8 rated at 300 horsepower took 11 seconds to go from 0-60 - not exactly muscle car numbers. However, the styling was attracting a new crowd of customers interested in the sleek hardtop, malleable convertible, or vinyl-roofed Landau. 92,465 T-birds were sold, a vast increase from the previous year.
