2027 Volvo EX60 Pricing, Specs, and Release Date

by Jeremy Korzeniewski

Volvo is leaving no electrified stone unturned as it prepares to launch its new 2027 EX60 electric midsize crossover SUV. “The five-seater, family-friendly EX60 ends range anxiety, delivers a groundbreaking user experience, and represents the next frontier in safety,” the automaker said in a press release. And judging from the specifications that have so far been released, that’s not just marketing hyperbole.

In addition to the 2027 Volvo EX60 electric crossover, the Swedish automaker will also offer an EX60 Cross Country model. The Cross Country version will sit a little less than an inch higher off the ground and will be equipped with an air suspension system that can double that number for max ground clearance (up to 7.6 inches, which isn’t a particularly large number for actual off-road readiness) or lower the vehicle for improved efficiency at highway speeds.

2027 Volvo EX60 Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2027 Volvo EX60

The Volvo EX60 and EX60 Cross Country are all-new models for 2027. The duo build upon the successful XC60 crossover SUV that has been on the market in the United States since the 2010 model year and is currently in its second generation. While the XC60 has been offered with various powertrain options, it has always included a gasoline-fueled engine. The 2027 Volvo EX60, on the other hand, is fully electric, built on a brand-new vehicle architecture that Volvo calls SPA3, and outfitted with the latest and greatest electric motor and battery technology the Scandinavian automaker could get its hands on.

Design

The 2027 Volvo EX60 builds upon Volvo’s reputation for clean, uncluttered exterior design. The crossover’s sleek shape results in a drag coefficient of 0.26, a good number for a vehicle that inherently sits higher off the ground than a sedan or hatchback and one that helps the EX60 achieve class-leading range of up to 400 miles. Because there’s no engine under the EX60’s broad hood, there’s no need for a front grille to direct air to a radiator for cooling purposes. The flat front fascia is bracketed by a pair of hammer-shaped headlamp clusters that bear a familial resemblance to Volvo’s current SUV models.

The EX60 Cross Country emphasizes its additional ground clearance with some relatively tasteful body cladding that ought to provide a bit of protection from roots and vegetation when the SUV is driven off the beaten path. The Cross Country is fitted with unique wheels and features brushed stainless steel skid plates front and rear, though it’s not clear how much underbody protection they are meant to provide. The EX60 Cross Country will be offered in a Frost Green color that is exclusive to the new model.

Powertrain

Volvo has yet to release a full set of specifications for the 2027 EX60 crossover SUV or its Cross Country variant. We know there will be three batteries available in vehicles wearing P6, P10, or P12 badging and boasting more power and range as the number increases. The EX60 P10 will offer 503 horsepower and 524 pound-feet of torque and will provide up to 300 miles of range courtesy of a battery pack rated at 91 kWh of usable power. The P12 version increases those power figures to 670 hp and 583 lb-ft, and Volvo says its 112-kWh battery pack is sufficient for up to 400 miles of range.

In addition to the three battery pack options, Volvo will offer both rear-wheel- and all-wheel-drive (RWD and AWD) EX60 models. An EX60 P6 with RWD should provide up to 310 miles of range, but we don’t know how much power it will produce.

The EX60 will be the first Volvo in North America to come standard with a NACS charging port that is compatible with Tesla Supercharger charging stations. With its peak 370-kW charging capability, the EX60 will be able to add up to 173 miles of range in 10 minutes when using a 400-kW fast charger.

2027 Volvo EX60 Preview - interior

Interior

The 2027 Volvo EX60’s interior stays true to the brand’s less-is-more design philosophy. An attractive multi-tier dash stretches toward the area ahead of the front passenger, and directly in front of the driver sits a small digital display that acts as the gauge cluster. A larger infotainment screen sits in the center of the dashboard and, unlike the one in the current XC60, is oriented horizontally.

There are very few physical controls inside the EX60’s cabin. A squared-off steering wheel houses controls on both sides of its twin spokes, and a small set of buttons sits below the infotainment screen.

Technology

As the first Volvo car to launch with Google’s Gemini AI assistant, the automaker claims that users will be able to “have natural and personalized conversations without having to remember specific commands.” Volvo calls its technology package HuginCore (named after a bird in Norse mythology) and says it was developed in collaboration with well-known technology leaders such as Google, NVIDIA and Qualcomm. The system is said to be the most responsive package ever offered by Volvo and will offer an updated and improved user experience compared to the company’s current lineup.

Volvo will offer the EX60 with a premium 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system that includes speakers in each of the four main headrests. The EX60 will also be the first product from Volvo to have Apple Music pre-installed with Dolby Atmos.

Safety

We don’t have a full set of specifications for the EX60 quite yet, but Volvo promises it will be “one of the safest cars on the market.” The crossover features a safety cage design strengthened with boron steel. On the electronic side, Volvo’s HuginCore tech includes a bevy of sensors that the automaker says will constantly assess the EX60’s surroundings.

Pricing and Release Date

The 2027 EX60 is currently available to order in European markets and sales in the United States are scheduled to begin in the late spring of this year. P6 and P10 models will be the first variants on sale, followed shortly thereafter by the top P12 model. While we don’t have any firm pricing information just yet, the EX60 will compete against electric crossovers (including the equally new BMW iX3) that start in the $60,000 range, so that’s a reasonable estimate for Volvo’s latest SUV.
