What’s New for the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Bolt EV is all-new for the 2027 model year, though it follows the same formula as its predecessor, pairing an efficient electric powertrain with a practical-yet-affordable compact hatchback body. It offers the most range of any sub-$30,000 electric vehicle (EV) on the market, and Chevrolet anticipates that the Bolt EV and the Equinox EV together will make up most of the brand’s EV sales. However, the automaker also says that the 2027 Bolt EV will have a limited production run.

Design

The 2027 Bolt EV has a familiar look, a thoughtful evolution of the previous generation that picks up sporty cues from Chevy’s current crossover SUV lineup. Touches like black wheel arches and sporty black textured grille inserts give it a modern look. Chevrolet plans to offer seven colors, three 17-inch alloy wheel designs, and an RS trim with roof rails and unique gloss black wheels.

Powertrain

Chevrolet estimates 255 miles of range for the Bolt EV, powered by the X76 drive unit shared with nine other General Motors EVs. It’s capable of one-pedal driving and features an advanced regenerative braking system. The Bolt EV uses a NACS (North American Charging Standard) charging port, which makes it compatible with the Tesla Supercharger network. It’ll have a peak charging speed of 150 kW+, capable of charging to 80% capacity in 26 minutes. The Bolt EV is also capable of Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) charging, enabling the vehicle to act as a temporary generator.

Interior

The Bolt EV is a spacious, comfortable hatchback. Chevrolet promises that, like its predecessor, it'll have good passenger and cargo space. The cabin has been updated with plenty of storage space and cubbies, with an open, airy feel. Options include heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and seats with contrast stitching exclusively in the RS trim.

Technology

The Bolt EV features an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Chevrolet uses the Google Built-In interface, and it includes Google navigation with integrated battery range and charging station information, streaming support, and certain entertainment apps. The system will include several USB-C ports and will be available with wireless device charging.

Safety

Chevrolet hasn’t yet released the full feature set for the 2027 Bolt EV but says it will have more than 20 standard safety features. The list will include intersection assist and rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking. Later in the model cycle, the Bolt EV will also be available with GM’s Super Cruise driver-assistance system, which enables limited hands-free driving on certain stretches of highway. The Bolt EV has not yet been crash-tested.
