What’s New for the 2026 Polestar 2

An offshoot of the Volvo brand, Polestar first broke onto the market with the Polestar One coupe, a very limited, high-tech grand tourer. Polestar launched the all-electric “2” in 2021, and it received a facelift for the 2024 model year. For 2026, the Polestar 2 gets a few more updates under the skin and a new option package.

Design

The Polestar 2 stands out with modern Scandinavian design—stylish and understated, with a bit of a quirk. Its fastback shape means it's not quite a car, not quite a crossover, thanks to a hatchback trunk and raised ride height.

There isn’t much to distinguish the upcoming 2026 model year from the previous years on the outside. There is a new exterior color called “Dune”—a sandy metallic color. The Performance Package gets new 20-inch performance wheels that are the lightest ever fitted to a Polestar.

Powertrain

The 2026 Polestar 2 is now only available in all-wheel drive (AWD) long range trim—the rear-wheel-drive trim is no longer available in North America. This AWD, all-electric powertrain produces up to 469 horsepower, while the 82-kwh battery delivers an EPA-rated range of up to 278 miles. Charging speeds are respectable, too, hitting up to 205kW at the right DC Charger, allowing the car to charge from 10 to 80% in about 28 minutes. For added convenience, Plug & Charge is now standard on all Polestar 2’s.

The optional Performance Pack does not add more power, but does add adjustable Ohlins DFV dampers, Brembo brakes and the new lightweight wheels.

Interior

The minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic continues inside, and those familiar with Volvo products will be right at home. Two interiors are available: an ethically sourced Micro-Tech upholstery in Graphite and a Black Nappa leather interior with Black Ash deco trim.

A new option pack is also available. Known as the Prime pack, it bundles the Plus, Prime, and Climate Packs for an easy way to get all the optional extras. All Polestar 2s now get tinted rear and tailgate windows from the factory.

Technology

The biggest update for 2026 is inside, behind the displays. The 12.3-inch infotainment system gets a new Qualcomm processor, delivering a better user experience with improved response times, smoother animations and improved download speeds for over the air updates. The Google-based system limits Apple CarPlay to a wired connection, but on the plus side, Google Maps is the native navigation system.

For audiophiles, a new high-end audio system from Bowers & Wilkins is one of the few optional extras. This system features 14 speakers with an ear-splitting total output of 1,350 watts, delivering a rich audio experience with new tweeters and mid-range drivers.

Safety

Safety is a priority for the Polestar 2 thanks to a range of active driver assistance systems. Standard features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control and standard blind-spot monitoring.

The 2026 Polestar 2 had not been rated by the NHTSA or the IIHS at the time of writing. Looking at last year’s model, we expect good results, as the 2025 Polestar 2 was rated five stars by the NHTSA.
