Who Makes Polestar Cars?

Polestar began as something far different from a Chinese-owned EV company. In the 1990s was originally a tuner and racer of Volvo cars. Much like AMG to Mercedes-Benz, as time went on the relationship became more formalized, culminating with Volvo acquiring Polestar in 2015. During this time there were Polestar Edition and Polestar-tuned Volvo models. The conversion to electrification and standalone models began in 2017. It’s majority-owned by Geely and part-owned by Volvo, which is in turn owned by Geely.

What Sort of Vehicles Does Polestar Make?

The short-lived Polestar 1 was the brand’s first vehicle. It was a dramatic luxury coupe with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Its mainstay has been the Polestar 2, a compact all-electric hatchback/sedan crossover. It is now joined by the 2025 Polestar 3, a midsize EV SUV, and is soon to be joined by the Polestar 4, which is a crossover with a coupe-like profile. All vehicles have tech-forward cabins, with large central touchscreens to operate most vehicle functions.
