General Motors has thrown its full engineering toolkit into the electric vehicle with the GMC Hummer EV SUV and the related Hummer EV Pickup. The Hummer EV SUV is big and powerful, but it's not very efficient for an EV. It takes on rivals such as the Cadillac Escalade IQ, the Rivian R1S, and the Tesla Model X.

What’s New for the 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV
For 2026, the GMC Hummer EV SUV adds a new King Crab mode that turns the rear wheels twice as fast as the fronts for greater off-road maneuverability. It also adds a new Carbon Fiber Edition with black emblems and, as its names suggests, carbon-fiber trim and wheels. Bidirectional charging is another upgrade for the new model year, along with revised dampers. Finally, the Super Cruise semi-autonomous highway driving system now works with Google Maps and updates the adaptive cruise control to match the posted speed limit.
Design
The GMC Hummer EV SUV takes its styling cues from the Hummer H2 of the 2000s, which took its own cues from the military Hummer H1. It’s big, tall, and blocky, with punched out fenders, a black roof, a nose designed to handle serious approach angles, and a segmented, high-set front grille. The whole package rides on 22-inch wheels, with a spare tire affixed to the tailgate. The new Carbon Fiber Edition blends its unique exterior touches with exclusive Magnus Gray Matte paint.
Powertrain
Buyers can choose from two powertrains with the 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV. A standard two-motor setup in the 2X variant offers motors front and rear that deliver 570 horsepower, while the 3X gets an additional motor in the rear for 830 hp. The 2X has 315 miles of range and the 3X has 312 miles of range.
The Hummer EV SUV is built as an off-roader with standard all-terrain tires, front recovery hooks, four-wheel drive, rear-axle steering, and an air suspension that can greatly increase the ground clearance. Related features are optional, and include front and rear locking differentials, skid plates, rocker protectors, a rear recovery hook, underbody cameras, and beadlock-capable (heavy-duty off-road wheels) 18-inch wheels with mud-terrain tires. Max towing capacity is 12,000 pounds, and a towing package comes standard.
Interior
Synthetic leather upholstery and 12-way power-adjustable front seats are standard with the 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV. Also standard are heated and ventilated front seats with driver’s seat memory, a heated and power-tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and heated outboard rear seats. Buyers can choose a Infinity Roof option with four removable opaque panels that open up the cabin and can be stored in the front trunk (frunk).
This big SUV has two seating rows for five-passenger capacity. Cargo room is quite useful, at 35.9 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 81.8 cubic feet when they're down. The power-operated frunk adds an extra 11.3 cubic feet of space.
Technology
GMC Hummer SUV drivers are presented with a digital environment that includes an 11-inch instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch center touchscreen that runs on Google Built-In. Navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone charging are also standard, but you won't find Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. GMC outfits every Hummer EV SUV with a 14-speaker Bose audio system.
Safety
The GMC Hummer EV SUV comes with a comprehensive set of driver-assistance features. Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, front and rear automatic emergency braking with intersection assist, lane-keep assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. The list goes on with a rear-seat reminder, a rear-camera mirror, rear cross-traffic and pedestrian alert, GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous highway driving system, an active blind-spot monitor with trailer coverage, and an automatic parking system. Rounding out the assortment of standard safety tech are a driver-attention monitor, a surround-view camera system, traffic-sign recognition, GM’s Safety Alert seat that vibrates in the direction of a potential hazard, and more.
Pricing and Release Date
At the time of writing, the 2X started at $99,895 and the 3X at $107,995. These figures include a hefty $2,695 destination charge.
In addition to the standard features mentioned above, both models come with LED headlights and taillights, LED roof marker lights, a power-opening tailgate with a power window, tri-zone automatic climate control, an integrated brake controller, and an air suspension system. The 3X adds the extra rear motor and a Watts to Freedom mode that unleashes full electric power that propels this behemoth to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.
