What’s New for the 2025 Toyota RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid
While it retains its frugal plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, the RAV4 Plug-In dropped half its name for 2025. Offered in SE and XSE trims, the crossover SUV is now called the RAV4 PHEV, but changes are only skin-deep as the model remains the same underneath.
Design
The newest RAV4 design is boxier and more aggressive than it was in previous generations, but the SUV still offers relatively friendly styling. With only two trims available, there are limited wheel and exterior design options. Toyota offers two-tone paint for the top XSE trim, which includes a black, gray, or white roof, depending on the base color.
Powertrain
Toyota equips the 2025 RAV4 PHEV with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, which make a combined 302 horsepower. It’s paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive (AWD). That setup is good for a Toyota-claimed 5.5-second zero-60-mph time, which made the RAV4 PHEV one of the automaker’s quickest vehicles before the Supra and GR Corolla arrived. The SUV also offers up to 42 miles of electric range and can recharge in 2.5 hours on a Level 2 home charger.

Interior
The RAV4’s cabin isn’t the most luxurious in its class, but it offers a good amount of space, and the seats are more comfortable than expected. Cloth upholstery comes standard, and synthetic leather is available. The base trim comes with heated front seats, while the synthetic leather-equipped model adds ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. Cargo space is just average, with 33.5 cubic feet behind the second row and up to 63.2 cubic feet with the back seat folded down.
Technology
An 8-inch touchscreen and small 7-inch digital gauge cluster come standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, six speakers, and more. A 10.5-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster are available, bringing navigation, wireless phone charging, and a JBL 11-speaker audio system. Toyota’s infotainment software is much improved over previous iterations, offering better responsiveness, a more intuitive interface, and easier-to-understand menus.
Safety
The 2025 RAV4 PHEV didn’t earn a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but that result is due to incomplete testing and is not an indication of the model’s overall safety. Its predecessor was an IIHS Top Safety Pick. Standard driver aids include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and more. Toyota offers reverse automatic emergency braking, a head-up display, automatic wipers, parking sensors, and a surround-view camera system.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the 2025 Toyota RAV PHEV SE starts at $45,615, including a $1,350 destination charge. The top XSE trim costs $49,910 to start.
