What’s New for the 2025 INEOS Grenadier

Ineos’ Grenadier is heavily inspired by the iconic Land Rover Defender that many of us—including Ineos founder and CEO, Jim Ratcliffe—were disappointed to see go in 2016. Launched in 2024, the Grenadier is the first vehicle produced by the start up Ineos Automotive brand, and it's a modern classic: an old-school 4x4 SUV with a body-on-frame construction, solid front and rear axles, and an optional snorkel.

New for 2025 is the 1924 Limited Edition, a special trim celebrating the centennial of the Belstaff clothing brand. Capped at only 1,924 examples worldwide, this limited edition features special colors inside and out, along with distinctive badging. It's regularly available in three trims: the base Grenadier, Trialmaster Edition, and Fieldmaster Edition.

Design

With boxy, no frills styling and optional safari windows, the five-door station wagon Grenadier looks ready for adventure. It comes with 17-inch steel wheels as standard, while 18-inch steelies are optional, but those looking for more style can spring for 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels. The Limited 1924 comes with unique 17-inch alloy wheels with aggressive BF Goodrich T/A All Terrain tires.

Looking for a blank canvas? Start with the base Grenadier and build your perfect off-roader with a wide variety of options, packages, and accessories available from the factory. Otherwise, the Trialmaster Edition comes ready for adventure, with more aggressive off-road tires, a ladder for easier access to the roof rack, and a snorkel air intake for water crossings. The Fieldmaster Edition is perfect for everyday use, with more civilized options, such as road-oriented wheels and tires, heated leather seats, and carpeted floor mats.

Powertrain

Under the hood is a BMW-derived six-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 282 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Mated to an eight-speed ZF transmission, the Grenadier can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in 7.3 seconds—pretty impressive for its size.

Fuel economy is not a strong suit despite the mild hybrid powertrain. Its boxy shape and full-time four-wheel drive, mean the Grenadier is rated at 15 miles per gallon, city, highway and combined.

It's incredibly capable off road, though. A two-speed transfer case combined with locking front, rear and center differentials deliver impressive off-road performance. This heavy-duty hardware also allows the Grenadier to tow up to 7,716 pounds.

Interior

The utilitarian design continues on the inside. To keep the old-school look and feel, the Grenadier features loads of analog buttons and switches, both on the dash and on the roof, behind the rear-view mirror and between the safari windows. We recommend going for Safari windows, which add two removable panels over the driver and passenger to create an aeronautical feel.

Cloth seats are standard, while heated leather seats are optional. The Fieldmaster Edition comes standard with heated leather seats and carpets. The 1924 Limited Edition also comes standard with leather and a unique green finish on the interior plastics.

Technology

A standard 12.3-inch infotainment screen handles all of the duties that we've come to expect from a modern vehicle in 2025. Wireless Apple CarPlay is standard, while Android users have to stick with wired Android Auto. This display is also used for normal vehicle instrumentation, such as the speedometer, the tachometer, and the off-road data.

Safety

All Grenadiers come standard with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and intelligent speed assist. Unfortunately, adaptive cruise control is not available, which is disappointing, considering the Grenadier's price.
