What’s New for the 2025 Hyundai Tucson

The 2025 Tucson gets what’s often known as a “facelift,” though in this case, the updates are much more noticeable inside. Hyundai substantiates the mid-cycle refresh with new tech, safety, and convenience features.

Design

The refreshed Tucson still features the signature winged daytime running lights (DRLs) and fanged taillights, as well as the angular creases that continue this motif across the side bodywork. The grille appears a tad wider and more assertive now, and the DRL arrays are now composed of eight slightly larger rather than 10 slightly smaller light units, but overall, the Tucson’s looks remain very consistent with its predecessor’s.

SE, SEL, and Limited trims feature lighter gray accents on the lower portions of both the front and rear fasciae, but the XRT trim level distinguishes itself by blacking out these elements. It also gets a unique 18-inch wheel design.

Powertrain

The 2025 Hyundai Tucson is offered in gas-only (also known as ICE, for internal combustion engine), hybrid, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) forms. The base Tucson uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Every trim of the ICE Tucson is offered with standard front-wheel-drive (FWD) or available all-wheel-drive (AWD), even the XRT, which is ostensibly the more rugged option. FWD models are rated for 28 miles per gallon combined, and AWD models are rated for 26.

The 2025 Tucson Hybrid comes with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine estimated to produce a total system output of 231 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. It gets a six-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with AWD. The same is true of the PHEV, except that it adds in a 72-kW electric motor, which boosts its total horsepower produced to 268. Both the Hybrid and the PHEV are rated for 35 miles per gallon combined, and the PHEV offers 32 miles of all-electric range. According to Hyundai, the plug-in hybrid’s battery should be able to charge completely in under two hours using a Level 2 AC charger.

For 2025, Hyundai has introduced new selectable drive modes, known as My Drive. These include Baby Mode, which smoothes the vehicle’s reactions to driver inputs for a calmer ride, and Green Zone, which optimizes use of pure EV mode where required according to local regulations.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Preview - interior

Interior

The curved display seen in other contemporary Hyundais has joined the Tucson for 2025, making the crossover’s interior appear noticeably more tech-forward. Without a separate center screen, vent housing now spans the width of the dash, making for a more streamlined and cohesive look. The revised center console still offers hard controls for volume and climate–in fact, their number seems to have increased.

Both the base Tucson SE and step-up SEL come with cloth-trimmed seats. Hyundai’s H-Tex synthetic leather is standard on XRT and optional on SEL, and the Tucson Limited comes standard with genuine leather seating surfaces. The driver’s seat becomes power-adjustable with the SEL trim and the front passenger’s with the Limited. Heated front seats are standard on all but the base 2025 Tucson, and ventilated front seats with driver’s seat memory are standard on the Limited. The Limited trim also comes standard with a panoramic moonroof.

Technology

Housed within the new curved display are two screens: A 12.3-inch infotainment display to the driver’s right, and a driver-information display above the steering wheel. The latter measures 4.3 inches on lower trims and 12.3 on higher. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the new Tucson includes one of our favorite Hyundai features: a button which lets the user designate the dual-function front USB-C port as charging only or both charging and data-transmitting. If you’ve ever experienced glitches with wireless smartphone mirroring while charging a phone through a data port, you’ll appreciate that this is quite handy. Dual USB-C ports are standard in both rows. Every 2025 Tucson also comes with HD Radio and SiriusXM connectivity and over-the-air (OTA) update capability. Voice recognition is standard on higher trims and optional at the SEL trim level.

Safety

Forward Attention Warning is newly available on the Tucson for 2025; it’s standard on the Limited trim and optional on SEL. This feature is essentially a camera-based driver-attention monitor, a less sophisticated version of which is standard.

Further top-trim safety and advanced driver-assistance features include reverse parking collision-avoidance assist, front and rear parking distance warning, Surround View Monitor, and Blind-Spot View Monitor. Hyundai’s hands-free Highway Driving Assist system is standard on the Limited and available on the SEL, as is navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, but adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality is standard even on the base trim.
