The GMC Terrain isn’t as exciting as some other vehicles in its segment, but it offers a spacious interior, good technology, and a smooth ride. What’s New for the 2025 GMC Terrain
GMC completely overhauled the Terrain for 2025. Changes include a new design with truck-inspired styling, an available two-tone paint scheme, more space, updated technology, and additional safety features.
Design
The Terrain ditched its friendly look for 2025, going instead for a Chevy Silverado-like design that incorporates an upright grille and a boxy overall shape. GMC offers a range of wheel choices for the SUV, including black and satin chrome options, and the automaker said it would introduce an off-road variant and a high-end Denali trim with unique styling elements late in 2025.
Powertrain
GMC offers one engine for the 2025 Terrain. It’s a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder making 175 horsepower and either 184 pound-feet of torque in front-wheel-drive (FWD) models or 203 lb-ft in all-wheel-drive (AWD) models. FWD variants come with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while AWD models get an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Those modest output numbers won’t wow anyone, but the SUV has a smooth ride and agreeable handling. That said, the engine tends to sound coarse and is louder than expected under hard throttle, which can be surprising at times.
Interior
The Terrain comes standard with cloth upholstery and manual front seat adjustments, but higher trims get genuine leather, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear outboard seats. The 2025 Terrain offers two rows of seating and accommodations for up to five people, with a good amount of space across both rows. Cargo space measures 29.6 cubic feet of space behind the second-row seats, which expands to 63.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat. Those numbers are about average for this segment.
Technology
GMC equips a 7-inch touchscreen and a 4.2-inch driver-information display in the analog gauge cluster. Other standard tech features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB ports, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker audio system. Higher trims get an 8-inch touchscreen and 8-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, wireless device charging, a household power outlet, ambient interior lighting, dual-zone climate control, and more.
Safety
The 2025 Terrain has not yet been through crash testing with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as of this writing, but the SUV gets a decent number of standard driver-assistance features. They include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and a rear-seat alert system. Available tech includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, and more.
Pricing and Release Date
GMC hasn’t released pricing details for the 2025 Terrain yet, but the MSRP should land somewhere close to the numbers seen in 2024, which started at around $31,000 and extended to almost $40,000 before options and destination. The 2025 GMC Terrain is expected on sale in late 2024.
