What’s New for the 2025 BMW X3

The X3 has been completely redesigned for the 2025 model year, heralding the fourth generation of the compact luxury SUV. The naming conventions have been updated: The “i” was dropped, and the M40i has been renamed, so you can now choose between the X3 xDrive 30 and the X3 M50.

Design

The X3’s new styling is a major departure from previous generations', which is a bold choice considering the popularity of the model line to this point. It now shows a more angular front-end design, while the whole vehicle is slightly longer, wider, and shorter. The M50 features some sportier design elements, including quad exhaust outlets. 19-inch wheels are standard on the X3. 20-inch and 21-inch wheels are available equipment.

Powertrain

The 2025 xDrive 30 comes equipped with a 255-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The X3 M50, meanwhile, comes outfitted with a 393-horsepower turbocharged six-cylinder engine. Both trims route power through an eight-speed automatic transmission to xDrive all-wheel drive (AWD). The M50 can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds; it also comes with an M Sport suspension and adaptive dampers for sharper handling.

The xDrive30 returns fuel economy of 27 mpg city, 33 highway, and 29 combined, while the M50 returns fuel economy of 25 mpg city, 30 highway, 27 combined. The 2025 X3 requires premium fuel.

Interior

The X3's five-passenger interior provides 31.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. Dropping the rear seats increases cargo space up to 67.1 cubic feet. Standard features in the 2025 X3 include tri-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable sport front seats, and heated front seats. It also features Vengaza vegan upholstery. The X3 is available with Merino premium leather upholstery, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats.

Technology

BMW has opted for a minimalist, tech-heavy dash design, with many critical features baked into the massive curved infotainment screen. That screen includes a large digital instrument panel and a large touchscreen that has easily accessible icons for critical features. It also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as wireless device charging and four USB-C ports.

Safety

The X3 comes equipped with a number of driver-assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.
