What’s New for the 2025 BMW M4
There are a handful of small but meaningful updates to the 2025 M4. These include updated LED designs within the existing headlight frames, “laser-enhanced” taillights, and an updated infotainment system. The M4 Competition xDrive features a slight bump in power.
Design
The 2025 M4 is offered in sleek coupe and convertible body styles. The M4 used a power-retractable hardtop as recently as 2021 and then was replaced with a cloth top, giving it a classic grand touring appeal. It can open or close in 18 seconds and at speeds up to 31 mph. Both the coupe and convertible feature the massive and polarizing front grille, which provides enhanced breathing for the numerous radiators and intercoolers. Trims for the M4 include the Coupe, Competition Coupe, Competition xDrive Coupe, and Competition xDrive Convertible.
Powertrain
The 2025 BMW M4 comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. In the M4 Coupe, it makes 473 horsepower, routed to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The Competition version makes 503 horsepower, routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive (AWD) xDrive Competition makes 523 horsepower (up 20 horsepower from the previous model year). The M4 Competition xDrive Coupe is the fastest of the bunch, with a zero-to-60-mph time of 3.4 seconds.
The M4 Coupe and Competition Coupe return fuel economy of 16 mpg city, 23 highway, and 19 combined, making these the most efficient configurations. The least efficient is the xDrive Competition Convertible, which returns 16 mpg city, 22 highway, and 18 combined.
Interior
The M4 has a modern and functional four-seat interior, and you’ll be surprised to learn that the rear seats are not as tight as one might expect from a sporty car. The coupe provides 15.5 cubic feet of trunk space, and the convertible offers 12 cubic feet of space. The M4 comes with power-adjustable sport front seats, heated front seats, premium leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a multicolor ambient interior lighting system.
Technology
The M4 features the latest version of BMW’s iDrive system, which is housed in a massive curved bezel that spans the majority of the dash. It includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen that includes wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. It also comes standard with satellite radio and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo system.
Safety
Standard driver-assistance features on the M4 include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, lane-departure warning, rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Available driver-assistance features include driver-attention monitoring, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and traffic-jam assist, which can modulate speed, braking, and steering below 40 mph.
Pricing and Release Date
At the time of this writing, the 2025 BMW M4 Coupe is $79,100. The Competition Coupe starts at $83,200 and the Competition xDrive Coupe starts at $88,300. The M4 Competition xDrive Convertible starts at $95,300. In addition to other packages that add creature comforts, M4 is available with a Carbon Package, which costs $15,500.
