The 2025 BMW 8 Series is an athletic and refined large luxury car. Offered in coupe, convertible, and four-door grand-coupe body styles, the 8 Series represents the flagship for the more sporting BMW cars (as opposed to the purely luxury-oriented 7 Series sedan).

What’s New for the 2025 BMW 8 Series
The 8 Series is largely unchanged for the 2025 model year. Its most recent update was in 2023, which saw some interior and exterior design revisions, as well as the addition of the larger 12.3-inch touch screen infotainment system as standard equipment.
Design
The BMW 8 Series has a broad, muscular design that gives it a commanding presence wherever it goes. The coupe and convertible have long, low-slung profiles, and the four-door Gran Coupe has a stylish yet sensible presence. All three body styles are offered in the 840i and M850i trims. The former comes equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels and the latter with 20-inch wheels wrapped in high-performance tires.
Powertrain
The base powertrain is found in the 840i and is a turbocharged six-cylinder that makes 335 horsepower. Stepping up to the M850i upgrades the engine to a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that puts out 523 horsepower. Both engines route power through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 840i offers the choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or xDrive all-wheel drive (AWD). The M850i comes exclusively with xDrive. This allows the M850i to sprint from zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds.
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 840i are 21 mpg city, 29 highway, and 24 combined. The M850i returns 17 mpg city, 24 highway, and 19 combined. The 8 Series requires premium fuel.

Interior
The 8 Series boasts a well-crafted cabin that is spacious so long as you occupy the two front seats. The coupe and convertible have seating for four and the Gran Coupe has seating for five. The rear seats in the Gran Coupe are more spacious than in the other body styles, though still tighter than those of true sedans at a similar price point. On the plus side, the trunk is roomy for a high-end sports car, with the Gran Coupe providing up to 15.5 cubic feet of cargo space.
The high-class cabin comes standard with Merino premium leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient cabin lighting, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Technology
The standard infotainment system consists of a 12.3-inch touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2025 8 Series also comes with a fully digital instrument panel, a Wi-Fi hotspot and a Harman Kardon stereo system. Upgrades include wireless device charging and a Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system.
Safety
The 8 Series comes equipped with driver-assistance features such as automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive headlights, automatic high beams, and a head-up display. Upgraded safety tech includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree parking camera system.
