What’s New for the 2024 Toyota bZ4X
The 2024 Toyota bZ4X carries into its second year with minor updates. Toyota boosts the bZ4X’s value with more standard features, as well as more options. This crossover features a spacious cabin and comfortable seats, though its range is just average and it charges more slowly than experienced EV owners might expect.
Design
The bZ4X has a traditional crossover profile, marked by the angular body creases and contrast-trimmed wheel arches that are typical of Toyota (and Subaru) SUVs. The windows are on the small side, though, thanks to a high beltline but relatively low roof. The base trim gets 18-inch wheels and 20-inch wheels are available.
Powertrain
With front-wheel drive (FWD), the bZ4X is rated for a combined 201 horsepower and 196 pound-feet of torque from the single electric motor and 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack. With all-wheel drive (AWD), output increases to 214 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque, with two electric motors and a 72.8-kWh battery pack. The XLE FWD model is rated at 119 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent) combined and 252 miles of range. The Limited FWD gets 114 MPGe combined and 236 miles. The XLE with AWD is rated for 104 MPGe and 228 miles, and the Limited AWD for 102 MPGe and 222 miles.

Interior
Like most crossovers of this size, the Toyota bZ4X seats five passengers across its two rows. There’s plenty of space for front occupants, though the rear row can be snug for tall adults. The bZ4X also comes up short in terms of cargo space, with just 27.7 cubic feet beneath the liftgate. Build quality is high, but there are some quirky design decisions. For example, unlike most EVs, the bZ4X doesn’t have a frunk. There’s also no glovebox, with Toyota favoring a variety of storage cubbies instead. Synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, and heated and cooled front seats and heated rear seats are optional.
Technology
The 2024 Toyota bZ4X features a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless smartphone charging, four USB-C charging ports, and a USB-A port. Toyota also offers a JBL premium audio system, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a smartphone-based digital key. The touchscreen has crisp graphics and quick response to inputs.
Safety
The 2024 bZ4X earned a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Though the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn’t yet fully tested the 2024 bZ4X, it earned top “Good” scores in the three tests conducted so far. Toyota includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assist, and safe-exit assist. A 360-degree camera system is also available.

Pricing and Release Date
The 2024 Toyota bZ4X is available now. As of this writing, Toyota lists pricing for the bZ4X starting at an MSRP of $43,070 for the base LXE trim with FWD and $45,150 with AWD. The Limited trim starts at $47,180 for the FWD model and $49,260 for the AWD model.
