The Hyundai Sonata midsize sedan has grown from an also-ran in its segment to a full-fledged Honda Accord and Toyota Camry competitor. Its tech and safety equipment, design, and fuel efficiency in hybrid models rival the specs seen from the car’s fiercest alternatives, and its pricing makes it a compelling option in the segment.

What’s New for the 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
The 2024 Hyundai Sonata line got a mid-cycle refresh that replaced its front-end design with a more futuristic look and gave it a smoother look than the outgoing model. The daytime running lights incorporate a light bar that spans the front end, and the rear got a refresh with a new bumper and taillight design. All-wheel drive (AWD) became an option in 2024, though only for the base gas model.
Design
The previous Sonata had a funky look with a bulbous hood and wild headlights, but the mid-cycle refresh has brought the car closer in line with Hyundai’s other offerings. The front bumper features a flat lip with slim headlights and daytime running lights mounted above and below. The rear-end look is similar, with an LED taillight bar that runs side-to-side.
Powertrain
The 2024 Sonata Hybrid comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor making a combined 192 horsepower. That output reaches the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Though it’s more than capable of holding its own in the corners, the Sonata Hybrid is much more comfortable as a sedate cruiser. Its steering and braking feel are not as communicative as sportier options in the segment, but fuel economy is excellent, at up to 54 mpg on the highway.

Interior
The five-seat Hyundai Sonata Hybrid comes standard with cloth upholstery and heated, power-adjustable front seats. The Hybrid Limited model steps up to genuine leather upholstery and adds a heated steering wheel. Front-seat space is excellent, and the seats are nicely padded and supportive. The back seats are more than able to carry adults, though three-across might feel cramped at times.
Technology
A 12.3-inch touchscreen comes standard for all 2024 Sonata Hybrid models. It brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM radio, and navigation is available. Hyundai’s infotainment software isn’t as flashy as the systems seen in competing vehicles, but that simplicity makes it a pleasure to use and less distracting while driving.
