sticky substance between distributor pigtail connector

Asked by Cutlass_2319 Feb 15, 2017 at 10:22 PM about the 1995 Nissan Altima GXE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently bought an aftermarket pigtail connector for my 1995 Nissan Altima.
Upon replacing, I noticed it. Is this a heat insulation? Should I be concern
since the replacement does not have it.

If it is a clear greasy substance it is dielectric grease. Don't wipe it off as it can repel moisture and keep the connection corrosion free.

It is not clear. Two of the four wires are wrapped together by tape and within the tape is the black sticky stuff.
