How do I take apart the front console so I can tighten loose screws on the hinge for the front console compartment lid on a 2008 Navigator? Thank you.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2008 Navigator - my front console lid is loose and won't close and I can see
that the screws on the hinge are loose but I can't figure out how to take the
console apart or remove the cup holder in order to get at the screws that
tighten the hinge. Does anyone know if the cup holder just pops off? It seems
like it does but don't want to force it and break something.

I had the same problem with my 2008 Expedition. I very carefully pried off the cupholder lid using a wide-blade screwdriver. The lidcame off easily. This allowed access to the screws. There are four holes in the hinge that align with four holes on the plastic plate. The top two holes on the plate were broken off. There was no evidence that the other two holes had been used. I purchased a box of #8 x 3/4" self-drilling hex washer screws and #6 washers at Lowe's and secured the console hinge to the plastic plate using the bottom two holes. I was able to get a slight hold through one of the top holes. Hope this helps.

Thank you Steve. Just fixed it myself and saved at least $150. Can you believe that Tuttle-Click Ford Lincoln dealership in Lake Forest CA wanted to charge me $150 just to diagnose the problem! And you know that they know how simple it is to fix. Thanks again!
