The Hyundai Ioniq Electric is the brand’s first mass-market electric vehicle. It does battle with the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Nissan Leaf. This year, it sees big improvements in styling, range, charging, and technology.
For 2020, the Ioniq Electric sports a bold matte-silver grille flanked by redesigned LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and a brand-new bumper. New wheel designs and sill moldings decorate the sides, while at the back, distinctive new LED taillights mark the Ioniq Electric’s path. Finally, you can select from two new colors: Stellar Silver and Electric Shadow.
The Ioniq Electric now delivers 134 horsepower, which is a 16-hp bump from last year, and 218 pound-feet of torque. As before, all of that power goes directly to the front wheels. The battery increases from 28 kWh to 38.3, netting 46 additional miles of range, for a total of 170 miles and 133 combined MPGe. Even the on-board charger gets uprated from 6.6 kW to 7.2. You’ll reach an 80% charge in under an hour with a 100-kW fast-charging station.
Hyundai offers the 2020 Ioniq Electric in SE and Limited trims. The SE includes an uprated 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cloth upholstery, heated front seats, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, automatic temperature control, keyless access and start, a cargo cover, and satellite radio. The Limited trim adds a 10-way power driver’s seat, a sunroof, leather upholstery, navigation, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, ambient lighting, and a Harman Kardon audio system.
The Ioniq Electric’s safety suite is considerably better than it was in 2019. Adaptive cruise control with stop and go joins the list of standard features on the SE trim. On the Limited, you’ll pick up highway-driving assist, lane-follow assist, and forward-collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection.
The new Hyundai Ioniq Electric boasts considerable improvements across the board. Look for it to reach dealerships in the coming months.

Fully loaded with every feature you could need!
Excellent value if you need a local runabout and can charge at home overnight.
People are put off by the range on a full charge (274km) If you have a second car for those long drives to the cottage then no worries.

I test drove the Ionic hybrid and loved it. I was looking for an all electric model and found one that was in terrific shape, thanks to cargurus. I bought my Ionic limited this weekend and love everything about it. The 2020 has all the great features like apple play and android play, as well as remote start and unlock through the app. With 170 mile range and fast charging in my garage, it is the perfect car for all over Chicagoland travels. It’s a great car for getting around town.
I like that the interior looks like a regular car and not just a flat screen on the dash.

Shopping for electric I see three distinct categories: if you can afford it, Tesla wins , hands-down. If you want to keep it as cheap as possible, Nissan Leaf has been in it longest and holds the bottom. In the middle, Hyundai has sufficient experience building electric, and a pleasurable driving experience. I like the steering wheel paddles for how hard to pull electricity back from momentum to batteries. I like the side video when changing lanes to check blind spots. Feb 01, 2022
