2017 Subaru Forester Reviews, Pricing & Specs

Expert review
When you’re looking for a vehicle that can do almost anything and travel almost anywhere, without costing much money and while providing impressive levels of safety and crash protection, the 2017 Subaru Forester is a good bet.
Two distinctly different Subaru Forester models exist. The Forester 2.5i provides everything that is good about this compact crossover SUV in a sensibly priced package. The Forester 2.0XT adds power, performance, and a handful of exclusive features in an apparent bid to inject excitement into the SUV, but it comes at both cost and compromise. The version you select is entirely dependent upon what you value most, and both are ready for a significant overhaul beyond the minor sprucing up that happens for 2017.

What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 2017 Subaru Forester appreciate its exceptional safety features, spacious interior, and reliable all-wheel-drive capabilities. Many drivers feel that the vehicle offers great value, especially in terms of comfort and the impressive technology provided. However, some express concerns over potential hidden issues, such as structural damage, which can create uncertainty for buyers."
I fell in love with this car at first sight. I drove and considered a 2025 Forester to compare and could not move to 2025. The 2017 Forester is friendly, bright, wide visibility, you sit high in it, it has a smooth ride and has all the basics that you need. My particular pre-owned model had a quality I cannot describe that is probably due to the previous owner but it is a perfect car. I would not hesitate to buy at 2017 Forester, unless it is truly toward the end of its life.
April 7, 2025It’s my first subaru and I’m already in love with the whole brand! The adaptive cruise control is one amazing feature, the cabin feels cavernous, and I feel glued to the road.
September 22, 2020If you live in an area where 4 wheel drive is a winter necessity the Subaru Forester fills that need with comfort and stability. The all wheel drive (AWD) that never shuts off gives more sure footed traction Winter and Summer. It doesnt matter if you buy the basic model or the luxury model the AWD and stability control are standard features.

September 1, 2022Excellent value for the money, the moon roof extends back to the third row and is my favorite feature. Very kid friendly, and exceptionally comfortable. Packed with all the creature comforts one could want in a vehicle.
October 14, 2024Great car! Nice features but a no nonsense kind of car. When it comes to snow, there’s nothing like a Subaru!
January 21, 2024Exceptional safety features, great ride and very dependable vehicle.
May 12, 2020Excellent, good car Im loved too much, great technology and keeping at great value
July 29, 2023Very solid car for the price. Has more up to date “bells and whistles” than we need. Nice interior roominess, and large cargo area. We are very satisfied.
June 2, 2020This particular car showed it sustained structural damages. However there was no explanation or records available of exactly what that entailed. Not a deal killer but definitely a red flag. The suggestion was I somehow bring a mechanic with me to inspect the vehicle. That is not a realistic option for obvious reasons not to also mention I am 150 miles away from the dealership. Thanks.
