Expert review
The 2017 Ford Escape gets a facelift as well as interior enhancements that make it more functional and more user-friendly. The big news, however, is the two new EcoBoost engines and a significant improvement to safety features and technology.
Crossovers are the "it" car these days, so there’s a lot of competition for a car like the Escape. This didn’t go unnoticed by Ford, so it gave the Escape a significant mid-cycle refresh.

"Drivers generally love the 2017 Ford Escape for its comfort, handling, and cargo space. Many appreciate the powerful performance and the features available, particularly in the Titanium trim. However, some drivers raised concerns about the vehicle's resale value and a few specific issues like interior smell and hatch door alignment."
This is the FANCIEST car I've ever had. Feature packed, peppy, good looking, 'nuff said. I LOVE this car!!!
May 23, 2026Great value with added features. Comparable to a jeep compass but with a more powerful engine. Nothing seems to be missing for me! It has 2 usb plug ins and 2 cigarette lighters for charging all the things.
September 30, 2026I bought a 2017 Escape in 2019 with 30,000 miles on it from a lease. I’ve never been a ford fan or even owned one, but I stepped out on a limb and this became the best car I’ve ever owned! Minimal maintenance and repairs and just a great car!! I put 160,000 miles on this car with zero issues. I would definitely buy it again.

May 22, 2025I had a 2017 Ford Escape SE with the Sport Appearance package. I loved it so much, Im looking for one just like it. Most impressive was its handling in an accident. Mine was unfortunately totaled, but it did great, deploying the proper air bags, automatically shutting the engine down and putting itself in crash mode, automatically turning the flashers on, and immediately dialing 911 FOR me. I was spun into a ditch and the car stayed upright. Its well balanced and handles well, and the tech features you can get on it are pretty top notch. With the Ford Pass app, you can start your vehicle remotely, lock your doors a mile a way if you need to. I love it. The only short side for me had to deal with the tires on the Sport Appearance package. I felt like they didnt handle wet roads as well as I would have liked, and the thinner tires provided a slightly less smooth ride. I could feel the road a little more with them, but I loved the look of them and it was worth the sacrifice for me.
July 13, 2021It is a solid vehicle. A better value than its competitors. I know it does not hold its resale value as well as the Rav 4 or CRV. But I have never purchased a car where selling it after years of use was ever a consideration in buying it. Good horse power. Well featured. Fords second best seller for a reason.
February 6, 2021We love the Titanium options, with the Navigation. The car handles very well. Very good view of the road. We had considered the Honda CRV and the Toyota Rav4. The Ford Escape is the perfect car for us. Hands-free trunk opening is very handy when loading and unloading packages.
January 18, 2021I loved everything about it! I loved it so much, I bought it. Great visibility, handles very well, feels tight, well-balanced and agile. Gas mileage ratings are also good. The roof racks and tow-ready package are a bonus. So is the intelligent 4x4. It also has plenty of room for storage all over the vehicle with attention to detail and ergonomic design. The only thing I had a problem with was connecting my phone. The display screen is far away and a bit difficult to read and I still havent figured out how to access the sub menu for adding Bluetooth devices. I guess I have to resort to reading the directions. Overall, its a very good value!
July 3, 2024Very reliable & good mileage. Leading in their class.
October 7, 2023Love the 2016 ford escape,I bought it knowing about the issues they have . As long as you change the transmission oil every 50,000km and the PTU oil every 2nd oil change your car will last a long time. Very comfortable and great all around for a small family. I suggest only buying the 2.0 liter model, better motor all around and up until 2016 it was the same motor used in Mazda and land rover so you know its built well.
March 28, 2021Loved it so much I bought it. Easy to drive. Love the new features. I do miss the moonroof and AWD.
