This is the most fun I have had in a car since the '60's with my Fiat Abarth Zagato. Acceleration is phenomenal from stop due to torque from electric motor, and no shifts. It reminds me of takeoff in the MD-90, acceleration with just the sound of the nose gear wheels spinning up. This car loves hills, in SoCal hilly areas it just wants to climb, no lag out of the turns. The regenerative braking is well programmed, absolutely no jerkiness in the transition from regen to normal braking at about 5mph. Only indication is the power indicator going from blue to green. Electric power steering takes some getting used to, initial input is a bit quick but steering is generally progressive as speed increases. Much better than the other EV's I tested, Ford Focus, Nissan Leaf, and Honda Fit, Fit is the worst in my opinion. One note; all FWD cars pull right under hard acceleration, 500e is no different, but since it uses the motor for regen braking so pulls left on hard braking. Best turning radius of the lot, 36 foot circle allows u-turn on two lane street without the "J" at the curb, great city car, parking is a snap.
Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)
Pros: Quiet, quick off the line, low cost of operation-.08 per mile at SCE's highest rates.
Cons: Limited rear seating, less than gas 500 as battery raises rear floor 4 inches.
