Molto Benne! —

This is the most fun I have had in a car since the '60's with my Fiat Abarth Zagato. Acceleration is phenomenal from stop due to torque from electric motor, and no shifts. It reminds me of takeoff in the MD-90, acceleration with just the sound of the nose gear wheels spinning up. This car loves hills, in SoCal hilly areas it just wants to climb, no lag out of the turns. The regenerative braking is well programmed, absolutely no jerkiness in the transition from regen to normal braking at about 5mph. Only indication is the power indicator going from blue to green. Electric power steering takes some getting used to, initial input is a bit quick but steering is generally progressive as speed increases. Much better than the other EV's I tested, Ford Focus, Nissan Leaf, and Honda Fit, Fit is the worst in my opinion. One note; all FWD cars pull right under hard acceleration, 500e is no different, but since it uses the motor for regen braking so pulls left on hard braking. Best turning radius of the lot, 36 foot circle allows u-turn on two lane street without the "J" at the curb, great city car, parking is a snap.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Quiet, quick off the line, low cost of operation-.08 per mile at SCE's highest rates.

Cons: Limited rear seating, less than gas 500 as battery raises rear floor 4 inches.

Sooo cute (and Im a guy saying that) and peppy but the back seat has very little legroom. If you want the car for family use and your kids are over 8 then Id look elsewhere.

GuruQ3R5K says:
We love our new-to-us 2014 Fiat 500e! We are gaining range by comparison to our pitiful 2012 Nissan Leaf’s 50 miles in winter :( and having over 85 now makes all the difference in range anxiety! We miss the heated steering wheel, the extra cargo space for groceries and doggie transport, and the bright interior lighting of the Leaf, but overall, the Fiat 500e meets our day to day needs of work, play and all of the errands in between. It’s less sluggish to drive than the Leaf in Eco mode, so you you don’t feel as guilty about pushing the car to driving up to or beyond the speed limit. Taking that hesitancy out of the driving experience has been a welcome and unexpected relief. I was glad to have the Leaf as my electric ‘learner’ car as it taught me to really appreciate the relationship between how you drive and how much energy you are using - something all drivers could benefit from, however, I’m now ready for the freedom and fun that the Fiat 500e creates. Hey FIAT, you Fixed It, Tony! ;)
