Pros: So Quiet Car. Lot of technology. Great in shape. Enough inside-space. Heated steering wheel and back seats.
Cons: little back trunk space. limited kms energy running. Consuming of Kms availability for running the car when functioning AC or radio. (Availability of kms is much less than displayed on the ad : nearly half availability only. 78 kms max after charging compared to 161 kms displayed in the ad (which may be when it came to the market). But after 11 years the function of the battery wil be lowered). Going on the highway speed will reduce the Kms availibility, causing some panic trying to search an emergency charging nearby because it warns you for lower charge on the road.Jul 19, 2023

Be careful with early electric vehicles. The battery for this vehicle is shot- and has been back ordered for 8 months with no delivery in sight. It is an outdated and apparently not produced part anymore. When we showed up to test drive the vehicle - the battery had 13 miles on the charge. Are electric car batteries like cell
phone batteries when they get old, and drop from 30-15- dead? Needless to say- we didn’t venture out with the car when they told us they didn’t even have the charging cord that was supposed to be with the vehicle. This little exercise just supported my opinion- that the only electric vehicle I want is one that is a hybrid with a plug in feature. In my opinion, I tried to test drive a disposable electric vehicle. Nissan of North America could not tell me if or when a battery would be available for this vehicle. The car looked nice- too bad it couldn’t be driven. May 22, 2023

I did not buy this 2012 leaf. I researched the battery life and replacement cost. It has a battery life of approximately 10 years, it’s not covered by a warranty, and would cost approximately $10,000 to get a new battery. Only has a range of about 80 miles between charging. The cost to fix is more than the cost of the car. Apr 20, 2023

Great value. When buying a first gen Nissan Leaf, like this one, make sure it still has sufficient battery capacity to suit your transportation. Remarkably, my 11 year-old Leaf had two-thirds of its original battery capacity/range when I bought it. That gives me a predictably useful range of about 30 miles with a few miles to spare. My 2012 Leaf is dedicated to carrying me to and from work (10 miles RT), a commute that is on surface streets, but my five mile trip from work to home requires a 900 feet elevation climb. I re-charge every other day. Great car for the money—for my limited range purposes. Mar 14, 2023

I like the car, however promised it would charge all the way and so far, car will only charge half-way. Tried at several charging stations. Replacement charge battery will cost 5-8 thousand dollars. Told car was fully checked by mechanic prior to sell. Also, tire light keeps coming on. Had air put in tire, light went off, but came back on after 1 days driving. Car rides very smooth & quiet! Love the interior. Luckily, I dont travel too far.Sep 01, 2021

This car drove great and it looks awesome. I was concerned about the range after years of battery degredation. The readout for average was 4kw/mile. With an 80kw battery in this model that means 20 miles at full. Even if the actual range is double the cars readout that isnt enough range. The salesman said it would be about a 50 mile range from full. If thst is true the instruments are way off and not reliable and I am still concerned about how lomg it will even hold that range.

The Nissan Leaf is great car especially if you live and work in the city area. You get so many incentive for having a fully electric car. Eco mode's acceleration is very similar in to my 98 JXI.
Normal mode acceleration rocks.
Handling sucks (first non sports car).
Snow is like ice.
NO HAND BRAKE! I need to figure out how to correct this.
Purchased used 12/14.

The built quality is good over all. It handled quite well with it's low center of gravity. It accelerated pretty good as well. Ample room. ok cargo. Where it falls short is as I stated. In winter time with the heater on you would be hard pressed to get 50 miles out of a full charge. I know the newer ones are a bit better but if they were able to step up the battery capacity to at least 80 miles in the cold with the heat on. i might be worth it. I sold mine. I have driven the 2012 LEAF SL several times and my immediate impression is WOW, it's extremely smooth on the road, handles exceedingly well and has among the most comfortable front and back seats in the entire mid-size market. It's acceleration is rapid and impressive. With the typical US household driving 12,000 miles per year, or about 35 miles per day, the range anxiety talked a lot about is far fetched, based on hard data. Within a few years, there will be charging ports everywhere. The LEAF has the charger inside and is a great 2nd car if you need to travel far distances often, or can be the most fuel efficient single car you can buy. Requires no maintenance costs associated with ICE vehicles (internal combustion engines), and with average US driving habits, should cost you about $30-$40 a month to fuel up. The LEAF requires Voltage Fuel, which is electricity, widely abundant, and incredibly cheap. Bottom line is that it's a real car, goes fast, is roomy, and will save you $1,000's of dollars every year you own it. Say bye-bye to the gas station if you own this car. Recommend you lease for now, and you for sure get the $7500 tax credit which is used as lease cash. Mar 01, 2012

2012 Nissan Leaf uses 10 miles of battery the first 2 miles when fully charged. Is this normal?
When the battery is fully charged and I first drive it uses 10 miles of the battery in the first 2 miles. No air or heat on. It then settles out and uses about 1 mile for every 1 to 1.5 miles driven. Is the initial usage normal. I have about 19000 miles on my Leaf.
