2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring Hardtop Convertible Review
Shifting was hard but I added some Prolong Transmission Additive and now it is quite smooth. Mazda coated the synchros with carbon to get the gear box smoother and the additive did the rest. Will change OEM transmisson fluid and add Prolong in about 3000 miles again. I know people say additives dont work but Ive used Prolong for 15 years in Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, Mini Cooper, and now Mazda and none of my cars ever burned oil. Not even the Cooper! Bought to commute because of dependability ratings instead of driving either a 1998 Mercedes Benz SLK230 with 90K, 100% OEM reconditioned I love, or a 1999 BMW Z3 2.3, 5 speed with 28K miles that I drive 2-3 miles every other week. The Z3 is in the garage covered for 15 years, impecable

Power Ranked 2009 MINI Cooper Base worse.
"It is quicker. Mini base had 122HP and Miata has 168HP. Mini Cooper is a 1.6 DOHC, Vanos timing (issues with age), and 11 to 1 compression. That is how they get the HP!"
Handling Ranked 2009 MINI Cooper Base better.
"No body roll, truly amazingly predictable."
Value Ranked 2009 MINI Cooper Base worse.
"Cost of parts, cost of service, and advertisd mechanical predictability. The Mini Cooper will bring lots of surprises, beautiful and sophisticated but cost to run is high. Thermostat $450, water pump $600, 4 wheel align at BMW $195 vs $112 for the Mazda. Electric hard top convertible. Simple design!"
Would Buy Ranked 2009 MINI Cooper Base worse.
"Advertised dependability and cost to own and commute."

Fantastic Car To Own! — Love owning this car!!! My wife and I enjoy taking a late night spin with the top down and looking at the stars or off to the beach on the weekend or just driving around town while others check out our car!

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Great car!

Cons: None!

2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring Hardtop ConvertibleReview

'09 Miata Gt Prht — Fun car. Handles like a dream. Hard top has a little more body roll than the soft top. Stability Control and traction control work great, though you will want to shut it off if you want the rear to break loose... which you can do with the push of a button, of course. It looks like it's smiling at you :-D

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: 30 friggin miles per gallon!!!!

Cons: 6+ degrees of body roll with the stock sway bars... should be 3 or 4, tops.
