Its a really good car for under $5,000. If it sells for more, shop around. Dont buy a turbo, or diesel version. Always have it serviced at a VW dealer, anyone else in 20 years of VW ownership only a dealer can properly fix it without issues or a dash warning light coming on afterward.

Great model, smooth ride. I have the manual transmission and itd be a great model to learn driving a manual on. You get a little help from the engine with acceleration so youre not as likely to kill or jackrabbit the car. I drive trucks and its a little similar to it, cant get it rolling and leave your foot off the gas in the in the Jetta like the truck (truck has the power to roll forward without any gas), but the assistance is great for beginners

I made an appointment to see a vehicle and was to confirm my appointment before coming. We live an hour away from the dealership, when I tried to confirm the appointment before we were going to head out they told us they had no one in the office to help us. Very frustrating . They asked us if another night would work so I told them and they never got back to us. I was very disappointed with the lack of customer service and follow up.

Sleeper — this is a great car for first car buyers, family owners, sleeper car owners, pretty much anyone who wants to have a sweet car. I love everything about this car and it has had no real problems. I highly recommend this car for anyone who wants to have fun with their daily driver.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Very fast, has a lot of pep! Great car for the usual driving and when its time to go, She turns into a little monster! Very comfortable to ride in, no issues with the build.... come on there Germans! (cough cough made in Mexico cough cough)

Cons: At around 70,000 miles a lot of stuff needs replaced.... spark plugs, cam follower, coil packs, diverter valve, PCV valve. But other than that its a great car.

The Jetta Is A Good All Around Car Just Needs Proper Maintenance — I bought my Jetta new off the lot and love it. The car has had its hiccups here and there. But I love volkswagens and wouldn't trade it for the world. Only suggestions is to have the engine reviewed if buying used because there tend to be some known problems that with preventable maintenance can be resolved

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: The Jetta has a huge trunk with lots of cargo room.  The gas mileage isn't too bad but with the a/c does tend to hurt fuel economy.

Cons: The electrical system does have its gremlins and switches easily short out.  The gear shaft knob is already peeling off and looks tacky now.

Good Solid Car To Drive, Medium Capacity In Terms Of Interior Space, And A Ton Of Trunk Space. — Car is drives very nicely with solid acceleration, handling and braking......typical of most German cars. Interior space in good for a medium sized car and comfortable. There is a ton of trunk space provided. Fuel economy is pretty good considering the power of the engine and comparable cars in its class.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Drives and handles very nicely with good road feel.  Power is very good for the size of the car and fuel economy is good.

Cons: Engine is a bit louder than similar car in its class especially when warming up, but not a big deal.

Great Commuter Car. Would Buy One Again. — I love the car. The only part that I was not a fan of was the special oil filter wrench. I am a do-it-yourselfer and I attempted to change the oil twice without the wrench resulting in a big fail. I have since purchased the wrench and I feel much better that I can do it on my own. It is comfortable to sit in while in traffic, and had a descent stock sound system.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great handling and sporty ride. Lots of room and has been very reliable. Always felt safe in this car.

Cons: Special Oil Filter wrench required.

Great Performance With Good Fuel Economy — A good value for the money and after 4 years and almost 40k miles it has not needed out of warranty repairs. VW performed the DSG recall and all of the strange shifting has gone away. Easy on gas even though it requires premium fuel. Tried mid grade but it ran terrible so I had to go back to the expensive stuff.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great engine and nearly 30 mpg on the highway

Cons: The seats can be a bit hard

2008 Vw Jetta 2.5 5 Cylinder, 5 Speed Manual Trans. — The Jetta is a good all around car. The 5 cylinder version(170 hp, 177 lbs-ft torque) while not being the fastest car in the world still is peppy, has more than enough power to get out of its own way, and drinks gas like a 4 cylinder. The handling in terms of steering, cornering, braking, etc. is as any German car should be. Absolutely no complaints here. It is incredibly solid also and definitely out classes all of the rivals in this category in terms of overall build quality. I looked at many cars in this price range and the VW by far was most impressive for this and many other reasons. Overall, the Jetta is very good as a daily driver/commuter. It's fun to drive (especially with the manual transmission), excellent on gas, and so far very reliable. At this point I've owned it for over 2 and a half years and put 38,000 miles on it with no problems.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Bought it brand new for less than $22,000 and has leatherette interior, moonroof, power everything, heated mirrors/seats, 10 speaker stereo w/6 disc cd changer/sirius satellite, etc. In other words, extremely well equipped. You can't get anything with the options mine has for this price.

Cons: Could be faster. Anything could always be faster though. Not that big of a deal.
