Write a reviewIn its second year, the 2008 GMC Acadia adds more standard features to the already well-equipped three trims. The mid-size crossover comes available in front-wheel drive or AWD, which is revised this year with the Intelligent AWD system. It automatically adjusts torque and yaw according to driver information and road conditions. Adding extra security is a new brake assist feature and revised traction control. These join standard stability control, ABS brakes, dual front-side and side curtain airbags, and 18-inch alloy wheels for five-star safety ratings. Also new in 2008 is an optional rearview camera, bundled with a navigation system.
The 2008 Acadia comes in three trims -- SLE, SLT-1, and SLT-2. The SLE starts fully loaded with power features, a CD player, and cruise control, while the higher-end trims adds power front seats with driver's memory, heated leather upholstery, a CD changer, power liftgate, and rear audio controls. Satellite radio has been added to the equipment list this year. The SLE seats eight with benches in both the second and third row, while the SLT trims seat seven, substituting second row captain's chairs with their own new center storage console. The second row slides three inches forward and back to adjust for legroom, and both rear rows fold flat, expanding the 19.7 cubic foot cargo space to an impressive 117 cubic feet. The Acadia claims to have the largest storage room of any mid-sized SUV. A net is standard, as is an underfloor compartment, and the SLT2 adds a cargo cover.
All trims come with a 3.6-liter DOHC V8 that delivers 275-hp and 251 ft-lbs of torque at a low 3200 RPM. A 6-speed automatic with overdrive is the only transmission. The 2008 Acadia combines SUV versatility and space with car-like handling, but unfortunately retains an SUV's low fuel economy, averaging 16/22 mpg. On the outside, a rear spoiler, alloy wheels and chrome trim, dual exhaust tips, and revised larger dual projector headlights add stylish touches that appeal to owners and distinguish the crossover from its sister vehicles, the Saturn Outlook and Buick Enclave.
The 2008 Acadia seems to earn a host of rave reviews, mostly for its long list of standard features, quiet ride, low step-in height, and its roomy interior and cargo space. Parents like its family-friendly safety record and easily-accesible seats. Negative comments point out the low fuel economy, noticeable hesitation when downshifting, rear visibility issues, and the difficult maneuverability due to its large size.

Overall, it's a nice vehicle if you need an 8 passenger vehicle. Has flexible seating and handles well even when fully loaded. My wife likes the power lumbar support for the passenger front seat. Usually, you only get that on premium level vehicles. Heavier on gas than I thought it would be but it can go over 400 miles between fill-ups on the highway.Aug 22, 2013

This is on heck of an SUV. It looks very impressive and rides very smoothly. The driving position is excellent and there are hardly any blind spots. This vehicle is loaded with features. Definitely luxurious and multi-purpose! Heated leather seats, DVD Entertainment system with wireless headphones, Heads-up display, auto-climate control - all make for a comfortable and safe ride! Easily seats 7 and room for storage too! The second row moon roof is a great plus for making it feel spacious and roomy in the back too! It includes an electronic screen if you want to keep the sun and light out too! The sunroof up front is controlled entirely separate and can be opened entirely, tilted for airflow, or close the moon roof cover to keep out sun and light.Mar 25, 2013

Acceleration times are hindered by the mass of the vehicle. Overall quality is excellent, have not had any issues. Ownership costs are low, except when paying for personal tax. Fun to drive factor is adequate for a crossover utility vehicle. Jan 08, 2010

If you want a all wheel drive car filled with utility that is mildly underpowered that works great for 60,000 miles than the GMC Acadia is for you.
The ride is comfortable and quiet, and handling is exceptional for such a large vehicle.
BUT, this car is criminally unreliable. The transmission just died (wave plates were made of too soft of a material), the oil pan leaks because it has been sealed with glue (no bolts)-- no joke. And finally, the engine warning system caution lights just started doing very strange things. Each trip to the dealer cost $2000-$4000. The last drive was to CarMax and I'm now free of wondering whether my family will safely get to where they are headed.
We finally gave up on a vehicle that looks to be in pristine condition, suited our family needs well yet has the reliability of a... well I guess GMC.
Lesson learned for us to offer up to you, do not buy GMC. Hurts to write that, but the good news is that Toyota sells reliable cars that are now made in America.Jan 12, 2009

I love the concept. Three kids in car seats but we didn't want a mini-van. 7 seats, really user friendly lay-out and easy to reconfigure interior. A regular size piece of plywood will lay flat and allow the back to close - impressive. Tons more standard features, more horsepower, better fuel economy and warranty than the competition (+ tranny built right here in St.Catharines!). Sounds great right?? Ah - but you may have forgotten that it was built by General Motors. I wouldn't trust them to put my Ikea kitchen chairs together.
To many problems to mention them all but big ones include an ABS that engages whenever it wants (yikes) windshield wipers that a) may stop working in heavy snow storms (intentionally according the co.) and; b) may catch fire, numerous electrical issues etc. etc.
This would have been the best vehicle to come along in a long time in any category if only they sould have subcontracted out assembly - oh well some of us never learn...Sep 08, 2008

This vehicle replaces our Suburban. Not as big inside or out, but handles better, rides better, gets better gas mileage, and still hauls 8 people (if needed). Seats fold down easily for extra cargo and back back seat easily accessible because the middle seats fold up and out of the way.
