The Buick Lucerne added a new Super trim in 2008, bringing the number of trims to 4. Otherwise, this well-regarded luxury sedan stayed the same for the most part. You have your choice among a 3.8 L, 197 hp V6, 4.6 L powertrain in the CX and CXL, a 275 hp V8 in the CXS, and a 292 hp V8 in the Super.
All trims have 4 doors and seat anywhere from 5-7 passengers. In addition, all trims have front wheel drive. The Super represents the premium edition of the Lucerne followed by the CXS, CXL, and CX in descending order of quality. Keep in mind that the better the trim, the tighter the suspension you get. The CX has cloth seats while the other 3 trims have leather. Finally, gas mileage averages out to 19 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway.
Overall, the '08 Lucerne upholds the Buick name with dignity. The solid V8, smooth ride, and comfortable interior make for a memorable driving experience. However, the CX's sub-200 hp V6 will likely have you considering an upper echelon trim. Despite any shortcomings, the 2008 Buick Lucerne looks good to go for 2007 and beyond.
What owners say
"Overall, drivers really like the 2008 Buick Lucerne for its comfort, spacious interior, and solid performance, especially with its powerful V6 engine. Many appreciate the high-quality feel and features like heated seats and a roomy trunk. However, some have mentioned concerns about higher gas consumption and the seating being a bit tight for larger individuals."
Steel body, soundproof, Buick quality, safe, comfortable ride and seats, bullet proof 3800 engine, locate parts easy. Could go on. Beast
May 26, 2024Nicely equipped, roomy, large trunk space, comfortable ride. Only issue is high gas consumption.
January 31, 2023Above average price, compared to well above average comfort and convenience features and excellent fuel economy. I recommend this sort of Buick to any family driver. The standard 3.8 liter V6 engine and OD transmission are terrific in day to day driving.

November 15, 2013Nice has all my needs. Even stuff thats fun like heated or cooled seats. Programmable seat settings. Great car for the money.
May 18, 2022I was looking for an economical, luxurious, dependable, stylish car and found it with the Buick Lucerne CXL. The V6 has plenty of power and good mileage for longer trips. The only complaint I have is the driver's seat and the other seats, for that matter, are built for smaller people than my wife and me. There is little room to maneuver once you sit and strap in with a seat belt. That gets a little old on a 600+ trip. Overall, a good family car, a great addition to my little 'fleet'.
July 27, 2012Excellant highway mileage. 26 around town. Roomy, quiet, comfortable. Standard 3.8 litre has lots of get up and go. The car only requires regular oil changes. Never needs repairs. Lots of trunk space. Automatic rear load leveling. Great 4 year bumper to bumper warranty. Love this car.
September 11, 2009i reallly did not like the tail... it reminds me of a vw phaeton. the new series III 3800 is much better. the firewall is further back from the 2-4-6 sparkplug bank. it is much easier to work on. props on that.
December 23, 2008NICE CAR nice price Buicks are known for good quality so even with higher miles it should last a while
