Volvo's very popular luxury SUV is set to undergo an overhaul in a couple of years, but for 2007 the XC90 received just some minor cosmetic changes. They're barely noticeable on the exterior but a bit more evident on the interior (more wood accents, metal trim on gauges, and additional leather trim). Two more paint colors were also introduced. Although this is a luxury vehicle, safety is still the first thing that comes to mind with the Volvo name. As such, all XC90s come standard with Roll Stability Control and Dynamic Stability and Traction Control, as well as the Side-Impact Protection System and Rollover Protection System. Buyers of this SUV are willing to pay to get the best for their families, and they get it indeed. Fog lights and daytime running lights are standard equipment on all XC90s, as are mirror-mounted turn signals. These features help to improve safety, but that's not the only helpful technology that you'll find: look closely for a teardrop-shaped feature at the base of the side-mount mirrors. It is, of all things, a camera, a component of the new BLIS (Blind-spot Information System), which uses digital imaging to detect things in the car's blind spots. Upon detection it triggers a warning light to alert the driver. Fancy that! On any XC90 trim, you can opt for the impressive bi-xenon headlights, which anticipate curves in the road and swivel up to 15 degrees to shine around the bends. The base-model XC90 is the first Volvo released with the much-anticipated I-6 engine, which was developed to replace the 2.5-liter, 208-hp of previous years. The state-of-the-art I-6 provides 235-horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque with no loss of fuel economy despite its larger size, thanks to keen technology. The two higher-priced trims come with a 4.4-liter V-8. Both engine types are transversely mounted, saving space to enhance the car's life-saving crumple zones. Fans of either transmission type will be satisfied, as the 6-speed Geartronic automatic transmission can also be shifted manually in situations when that is preferable (when towing, on curvy or snowy roads, or just to better feel what the engine can do). To fully load your XC90, go for the big-dollar options of the Navigation System and Dual-Screen Rear Seat Entertainment System. You can also opt for 18-inch wheels (or 19-inch on the V8 AWD Sport trim).

Car had a thinking sound in the engine, the breaks need to be changed and not only could you hear it but they weren’t responsive. The car does have a third row seat which is a plus however the inside roof of the car have spots of stains of an unknown origin as well as the leather being ready to crack on almost all the seatsJul 16, 2021

The huge windshield gives you a great view, and it rides very smooth. Very quiet interior, and tons of room for kids, their stuff and groceries or whatever else you may be hauling. Really like the standard options, especially for safety; but the upgrades make it more fun. I actually called it a spaceship one day when I told someone about it. :)May 16, 2015

I initially started looking at the XC90 partly because of the styling but also because of Volvo's legendary reputation for safety (remember "boxy, but good?"). It's styling has remained relevant since they have not done radical redesigns to the line, including it's little brother, the XC60 and the current model that is out looks essentially as it did in 2003. Some people may take objection to that, but if you are in the market for a used car, it helps that they still look pretty current. Luckily, I have not had to test the safety claims yet!
Overall, the car is very comfortable to drive on the highway and has some modest off-road capabilities. It has been able to negotiate the odd snow storm and rainstorm with no problems and takes us to the mountains without any complaints. As I suspect is the case with most SUV's, it does not do so well in the city. Hills, stop lights/signs and traffic all add up to a pretty measly fuel economy and some above average NVH.
If you are looking for a comfortable family road-trip car, this might just be your ticket. 3rd row of seats can actually also fit two children and small adults comfortably, but watch out for their luggage as it really cuts off a lot of storage space.Aug 20, 2014

This car makes loud, cracking noises when making wide left or right turns when backing out of parking spaces, like something on the axle is breaking. The transmission for the 2007 model is very difficult to repair due its placement and the repairs are very costly. Maintenance is expensive. For example, the thermostat hose had a leak last week, and it cost $493 for the thermostat housing to be replaced (labor included). They had to order the part directly from Volvo. It is a comfortable, safe, and wonderful car, but it is just too expensive to try to maintain.Jul 30, 2014

This has been a pretty good car, wife loves the safety feature. I think it is a little under powered and has a weird accelerate pattern. Pretty easy to work on and has been reliable. Has always burned a little oil, but nothing that requires refilling in between changes. Got is for a good price so it has been a good performer.Jun 11, 2014

Shes a great ride, looks great, feels great, and very reliable. Low maintenance, I wish I could find a woman like her lol. All over comfort level is luxurious, not too many buttons, everythings easy to understand, volvo makes a great suv and i wont drive anything else now except porshe, bentley, bmw, or some other high end vehicle. I did alot of research prior to purchase and this was my choice over range rover, audi q7, mercedes suv, and bmw x5. Get one and enjoy the ride!May 24, 2014

Amazing 12 speaker surround sound stereo system with 6 disc CD changer. Sun Roof. GPS Nav System. All around great vehicle. Only thing I would ike to se is easier access to the back row seating.

I love everything about the car including the gas mileage. Very luxurious and drives like a dream. I traded in a 2001 MDX which had much more performance. I would but another XC-90 but hope they muscle up their v6.Apr 24, 2008

Safety is important to me and this Volvo XC90 has that covered. This SUV is also fun to drive and has many options you can choose from. If you have young children the 3rd seat is great and east to get in and out of. Either engine will give you plenty of power but I choose the V8. I also liked the best audio system which provides great range and sound quality.May 30, 2007

Replaced Bad/melted Coil, But Will Not Start
My wife was driving our 07 XC90 3.2 one day and it starts running rough and the "check engine" light started flashing and also the display panel to the left said, "slow down or gear up". Within seconds the car stalled and would not start. The engine would turn over, but not start. I am no mechanic, but I try to do as many of our car repairs as possible. To avoid an expensive mechanic bill, we had it towed home. Going by what my wife had told me I immediately went online and did some research and came to the conclusion that it was most likely a bad coil. When I got a chance to take a look I could see that the coil on the far left was obviously bad. It had a small crack on the top and had considerable melting/deformation. One main concern was what made it melt in the first place, but not having a code reader or mechanic handy I thought the best thing for me to do would be to replace the bad coil and put a new plug in that cylinder, then I could drive it somewhere to have it looked at to see if there was another issue that needed to be addressed. If this fixed the problem I would change the other five plugs as well because I know it's been over 100,000 miles since they were replaced (if ever). Anyway, I changed the plug, put in the new coil and tried to start the engine. Much to my disappointment it is still not starting. My assumption is that whatever made the coil melt in the first place is what is preventing it from starting, or that maybe when the coil went bad that somehow damaged or triggered something else. I am not sure what to do at this point and my car knowledge is somewhat limited. I know the easiest thing to do would be have it towed to a mechanic and have it fixed, but I simply don't have the money for that right now, at least not for a $1000+ bill. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had my Volvo XC90 serviced in March, and now its blowing white smoke. Shouldnt the ServCenter have caught this last month??
I had my car serviced at Bavarian Motors in Philadelphia in March of this year. Several things were repaired including brakes, wipers, and sunroof. Still, the check engine light was one and I was informed that this was because of a oxygen sensor (?) of some sort that needed to be replaced. I opted to wait until i had more income (2 months or so) to fix that. Fast forward three weeks and my oil light comes on during a drive from DC to Philadelphia. Said there no oil... I had the oil changed in late Nov of 2013 so this seemed weird. Made plans to have the oil changed the next day; went to my car bext morning and billowy white smoke poured from the exhaust pipe. It moved, but was a little jerky. Called a tow truck, had it towed back to Bavarian. They preemptively say they believe it is the turbo. Shouldnt they have caught this issue during the last diagnostic? If they didn't, why? Should i have to pay for another diagnostic procedure if I was here just last month? The tow truck driver was assured it was a blown head gasket or cracked head - and that I should go to his shop for a $2000 repair. Who is bs'ing me?? Cause I am pretty sure somebody is. I don't trust these guys...

Catalytic Converter/O2 sensor
One of the converters or O2 sensor is bad. Getting bad reading from O2S12 but I can't find which side this is on. Driver side or passenger side? It ranges from .896 to .081 on my scanner O2S22 ranges from .735 to .458 on scanner. I'm trying to fix myself because of cost, any help would be great!!

'07 Volvo XC90 AC
The AC in my '07 xc90 stopped blowing very hard. We took it in and $1,400 later, it still doesn't blow hard enough to cool the car down. Especially if there are passengers! I have tried arguing my case with the repair shop, but they just stick a thermometer in the vent and tell me, "Yep, 40 degrees." but you can't feel it blowing!! My receipt shows they replaced AC compressor, receiver dryer, cabin filter, flushed the system and replaced the engine air filter. There was also a charge to "evacuate and recharge". I know nothing about cars, can anyone advise me on this?? Is my car just too old? Is this the best I can hope for?? Ugj!!
