The SL55 AMG is luxurious and powerful. Most of the cars online were overpriced. I would compare it to a 2009 SL63 AMG.

I really like the body style and the upgrade to the 5.5L engine really gives this SL, an abundance of power. I got the color I wanted and am loving this beauty. What a blast!

Missing back up camera, video on the screen, figure a cost of $2,000. A month to set aside for repairs. Along of items on the car works off of air supply from an air pump in the car. A lot of places for air to leak.

Classic Super Car — This car is amazing i loved it. Yeah it did kill me on gas but its take off was amazing. The Sl55 really puts a smile on your face everyday. It is also a neck breaker, people always turn their head to see whats up!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: super fast car

Cons: awful on gas

50 Years Of A Great Tradition — If you want a fun and spirited car to drive around town - or on the highway, consider most any model of Mercedes SL. There may be some years they were not so great, but generally and model of SL will be fun to own and drive. The handling , performance, quality of construction, etc has made this car a long time winner for Mercedes. There are a few downsides though. If you buy one new - you will get absolutely clobbered on depreciation the first several years. My advice is to consider one that is 5 to 7 years in age. Many of these cars only get about 8k or less of miles per year so a 6 yr old car will likely have less than 50k miles. In Mercedes terms - that is still a young car and you will be buying it at less than 40% of MSRP. The other problem will be maintenance. They may not break often - but when they do - it will most likely be very expensive. Start now and build a good report with a trusted independent garage.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Sharp looking body style. All around fun to drive. The ride and handling are hard to beat. Top raises and lowers very quickly.

Cons: Gas mileage not so great - but you don't buy these cars in the first place if that is a concern. Buy one used - WAY to expensive when they are new.

In Awe! — I cannot say enough about overall package the SL550 offers. This is my wife's car but even at 6'7" I can fit comfortably behind the wheel and enjoy every minute of it. It has the power and performance that a long time BMW junkie like me has grown to admire and has a smooth and luxurious ride that rivals my 750Li. Sure you are going to spend more on tires and general upkeep than if you are coming into this from a Honda but for those used to this class of vehicle, there is not a better built convertible on the market. It's timeless style has always turned heads and will continue to do so and long term ownership will prove it's strong residual value above others in the same class.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: This car has the looks, performance, luxury and safety that is hard to find in many cars. It will feed the sports car type and luxury type equally. It turns on a dime, can leave most sports cars in the dust with little or no effort, exceptional braking and feels as sturdy as a tank.

Cons: Chrome kick plates were a bad choice by Mercedes for the interior step because getting in and out will inevitably mark them up. Molded rubber or plastic material to match the interior would have been better choice.

Awesome Driving Machine — This car is a head turner and is a speed demon. Performance is aggressive, throaty and well advertised. Limited at 155 and gets there in a heartbeat. Interior is kinda tight for heavy or passengers over 6' 2" tall. Love this driving machine.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Performance, looks, reliability.

Cons: Seat adjustments if you're over 6' 2". Fuel economy (but then, it is a performance vehicle).
