Noisy But Dependable, Roomy Small Suv. —

I bought this car brand new in 2006. We have 90K miles on it, and have spent money only on routine maintenance items to keep it running. It has plenty of cargo room in the back for packing luggage for a long trip, groceries, and for our 90-lb. labrador retriever to lay down. This model is a five-speed 4-cylinder engine, so gas mileage is better than I expected for an SUV (close to 28 mpg HWY). Since this is a 5-speed manual transmission, acceleration is quite easy, even when running the air conditioner. For a base model and being a 5-speed, there are many unexpected options: cruise control, automatic windows and locks, front and side airbags. My favorite feature is the air bag weight sensor in the passenger's seat that will turn off the front passenger airbag if the individual sitting in the passenger's seat is under 100 lbs. This allowed for booster seats and smaller children to sit in the front at times. Handling and breaking are as expected. If I could change anything, I would find a way to reduce the road noise and get a different colored interior. Black interiors are way to hot in this part of the country.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Gas mileage, roomy, a lot of options for a base model, routine maintenance only, handles great.

Cons: Road noise

Awesome!! — I love the four wheel drive :) Gas mileage is kind of sucky, but no major problems...just regular maintenance so far! Needed tires and oil changes so far. And we need to charge air conditioner but that is all! Yay!

Pros: Great storage!

Cons: Gas mileage could be better!

My Kia — I was born to drive an SUV! Its smooth and fascinating. My kia performs amazingly just not on broadway. The brakes are in great shape and I love the fact I can get into the back by opening the window. There is lots of space and my Kia helped me move. I love my Kia!

Pros: the size and gas

Cons: needs a navigation system

I have owned this vehicle since I bought it new in 2006. My Sportage has a 5-speed manual transmission, but also has cruise control. With regular maintenance, the only component that needed repair was the air conditioner. It was a costly repair, but well worth it. I drove the car for several years as the family vehicle and back and forth to work. In 2014, I passed the vehicle down to my teenager for use back and forth to high school. As a sophomore in college, this is still “his” vehicle with over 130K miles on it.
