The overall Lancer lineup has been slimmed this year with the discontinuation of the Sportback Wagon. The sedan model also loses the LS trim. The O-Z Rally is now finished with special racing wheels, and it is now eligible for the Sun and Sound Option Package. The base level ES gets an enhanced Convenience Package, which now includes color-keyed mirrors, cruise control and intermittent wipers.
There are three trim variations for the 2005 Lancer sedan: ES, O-Z Rally and Ralliart. The base ES includes the basic convenience features, like air conditioning, tilt steering, cup holders, power mirrors, power windows, power door locks and a CD player. Higher trims add cruise control, keyless, and various performance enhancements.
The ES and O-Z Rally are powered by a 2.0 liter inline four, which provides 120 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque. The ES and O-Z engines may be paired with either a five-speed manual or an optional four-speed automatic. The Ralliart upgrades to a 2.4 liter inline four, making 162 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. This performance model is only available with the automatic. Fuel economy for the 2.4 is estimated at 23/29 mpg.
The Lancer lineup is split into two separate models: the Lancer sedan and the high performance Lancer Evolution. There are some important distinctions between the two. The regular Lancer models offer an adequate performer with the Ralliart, but reviewers agree that the ES and O-Z might be a bit too sluggish for most eager drivers. The Evolution is also set apart by price, costing over $10,000 more than the regular Lancers.
The ES, O-Z and Ralliart all offer a roomy and interior with a considerable list of features, refined engines, and a stable ride. Shortcomings include a lack of safety features and storage space.

What owners say
"Overall, drivers appreciate the fun driving experience and good handling of the 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer. Many love its affordability in maintenance and fuel economy, with several noting the various aftermarket customization options. However, some owners pointed out uncomfortable seating and unusual interior design as downsides, with a few mentioning concerns regarding the build quality and handling dynamics on uneven surfaces."
Performance: 0-60 7 sec. Brakes like a dream. Can handle corners at .9g. dont let the 120hp keep you from buying this. Mitsubishi knows how to gear their cars. This out accelerates several cars with even a v8 under their hood. Build Quality: Everything is comfortable. Has needed no repairs at all. AMAZING SOUND SYSTEM. 35mpg!!! like I said 0-60 in 7 seconds.. its fun to drive, fwd makes it easy to do "fun" things with.
September 27, 2010its quite agile. Good handleing. great acceleration. not the quickest car on the road but it definately could be with a little work. it costs a little bit to maintain with plates and all but it is definately worth it!
May 13, 2009Likes: 1)INVECS-III CVT sport gearbox 2)Air conditioning 3)Rear head room since my head touches the roof of civic 02-06. 4)More advanced suspension as compared to competing vehicles. It has a coiled spring Multi-link Suspension which is tuned to handle the car superbly and provide relief from bumps simultaneously! Dislikes: 1)Once you drive it, it doesn't leave anything to dislike!!!!!!

September 3, 2009Just a super fun car to drive! It handles well, is dependable. It's reasonably priced in terms of maintainance. It has good gas millage if you drive it sensibly. It's a very fun car to drive. I absolutely love it! And there's lots of after market things you can do to spiff it up in appearance and performance. Amazing car! Love it!
March 7, 2009Lows: Brake pads make noise when driving on uneven pavement. Quite quiet at full throttle. It leans a lot trough fast curves, even when I know its not a sport version. Highs: It gives me real 30 MPGavg!!!. Never fails, and its so roomy for its class. Amazing grip with standard slim tires.
October 2, 2008Excellent car, very reliable, good handling, good stereo, not too many around so you get looks. Suspension could be a bit softer, in the winter tends to get rocks in the struts and makes a clunking sound. Good acceleration for a 2.4L and good on gas. Plus is has a 10 year warrenty.
March 18, 2008My family used to own a Gallant, so I was open-minded when a rear-end collision took out my Cobalt's trunk and let me try another car for a while. While the Schmidt family's insurance policy repaired my Cobalt, I experienced a poorly built Lancer. The seats are horribly uncomfortable. The dash is unattractive and unconventional. I don't like the exterior at all, partly because the body looked so tall and partly because the geometry just looked weird. Since it was a rental, I had no problem pushing it to the limit. It accelerates well, but it gets up to a low top speed. Driving to St. Louis from Kansas was not fun in seats that made me want to see a chiropractor. Don't get one of these.
March 15, 2008fullly loaded. upgraded stock sound system. sun roof. stock drop lip on bumpers and sideskirts. MIVEC 2.4 liter engine(currently all stock). Ralliart suspension
February 27, 2008awesome car very quick for the ES lancer in my opinion very good handling along as its dry good for racing and flying around corners all in all i would say this car is an amazing piece of machinery and would recommend it to any one
December 6, 2011This car is a nice car. The power is decent from stock, but the torque makes up for the lack of power. The gear ratio is nice and tight often times makes me wish I had a 6th gear. Handles the corners like a champ for a FWD. This RA still sits in the shadow of its bigger brother the Evo.
