do i need to replace my transmission
car will go a short distance and stops moving . it will go in reverse . if i sit and wait awhile it will move forward again for a short distance and stop moving. do i need to replace the transmission ?

The Chrysler Pacifica entered its second year of production in 2005, with an expanded model lineup. For this year, four trims levels were offered, including Base, Touring, Limited, and Signature Series.
The Base model is identical to last year's Pacifica, but the Touring and Limited trims get several features upgrades. The Signature Seires is special package. All Pacificas come standard with first and second row heated seats, power front seats, second row captain's chairs, adjustable pedals, dual-zone climate control, and full power accessories. Limited and Touring models include a 10-way power driver's seat, automatic climate control, a navigation system, and Chrysler's hands-free "UConnect" communication system.
All models are powered by a 3.5 liter DOHC V-6, which supplies 250 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. All models use a four-speed automatic transmission. Drivers can expect mixed driving mileage around 20 mpg.

I am not sure why they stop making this crossover however, if they made a newer model I would by it today! Best American Car/SUV/Crossover ever made. Never had a problem with brakes, acceleration or handing. Overall a very nice car!!Jan 05, 2015

I am a shade tree mechanic and was impressed with the engineering. I can do alot of the maintenance myself. The car is fun to drive and I like the styling. Gas mileage isn't the best but it's not bad for what you get-comfortable stress fre driving.Nov 04, 2014

I loved this car, not only was it comfortable for long road trs with the family I felt safe with my children riding in it. the kids had plenty of space, werent on top of eachother, and enjoyed the built in dvd system. they also put the charger outlets in the 3rd and 2nd row to good use on trips with all their different games, they also enjoyed the reclining captain seats in the 2nd row. this is a great family car!Mar 09, 2014

I would buy another newer version. It has been good to me. I am just looking to buy a new car. I liked the special features like leather seats, sunroof. The room in the back row is excellent. I have sat adults in the last row for long trips. The cargo space is limited.Apr 21, 2013

This car drives like a dream with a Mercedes chassis and leather touring interior. The all wheel drive with auto-stick transmission makes this an excellent car for all weather conditions. A unique feature is that this vehicle is easy to get in and out of due to the special design of floor - you step straight in, not up and in. It is also lower to the ground than most SUVs. This is a great looking car that is also very comfortable and affordable. We went from Marlborough, MA to Orlando, FL with the car and it couldn't be a nicer trip. 2 captain seats in the back makes whomever is there very comfortable. It has separate controls for driver and passenger air conditioning and you also can control the CD/Radio on the steering wheel .
Has a lot of power outlets and the leather seats matching the exterior color is just the cherry on top of the cake!! Aug 31, 2012

Very roomi, back captain seats is like sitting in first class, quiet, soft ride but still sporty, nice console layout, wood trim gives that high end look, all leather, soft and nice to the touch. 3rd row seats fold down and ads more cargo space.ike

overall I give the pacifica 7.5 stars out of 10. There is room for improvement but this is probably b/c I own the base model - the touring certainly gets 9 out of 10. No car deserves 10.
Good looking and reliable family transport is all my wife and I require and our pacifica has certainly delivered over the years with minimal maintenance. As long as you change her oil regularly (every 3000 miles religiously) she'll take care of you.May 31, 2012

I love the way that it rides. I love the people and cargo room. I love that it does not look like a minivan. I do not like the gas use. I do not like the low end model that I have with no bells and whistles.

I bought this car for a great price. For a used car with 63K miles I am surprised how well the interior has held up compared to other used cars I have looked at. I drives well. I love my car, because it is a 6 cylinder that is great on gas, it has a dvd player so it keeps the kids busy when needed, a tape player as well as a cd player, and automatic everything. Both front and middle seats are captains chairs that have seat warmers, and the rear seats fold down (as well as the middle seats) to hauls just about anything. It has leather interior, and the silver color onthe outside with the black bottom panels are sporty yet luxurious. It accelerated nicely, and rides smoothly. It handles wonderful both in the sand at th beach and the snow in the Sierras. It's awesome for camping, as there are multiple power outlest all over the interior. Very comfortable to drive, and the stereo system bumps and rocks (yes, it's stock). Best all around vehicle I have ever owned. Oct 18, 2009

I really like my Pacifica.
I like that it isn't a van -
it isn't an overgrown SUV.
It fits my family of 6 very easily.
The entertainment package keep the kid satisfied.
It looks great and handles like a dream.
I appreciate the AWD & heated leather seats especially in the winter!
I haven't had any problems with the car at all.
It is to bad that Chrysler has cut the line.

Performance - Powerhorse, Braking, Handling are great, Acceleration is only good if using the Auto Stick mode like a manual gear shift.
Build Quality - Tough, Safe, Durable, Reliable, Safe (part Mercedes)
Appearance - Lovely sleek, comfortable, unique from other crossover's
Cost of Ownership - Mileage approx 18mpg average, service is moderate 2500/yr MAX

Bought as a dual-use vehicle: equipment sales & family of 6 hauler. Perfect for both! Easy fold-flat 3rd row for equipment, very easy to drive, loaded with all the best features, & navigation is very useful. Family loves the wireless headphones & DVD with separate AC controls. I took this on a 3800 mile trip to NJ and back, the ride is great for the highway and the seats are very confortable. It needs more power, a fact made obvious while crossing the Tennesse mountains. Keeping up wit traffic was very taxing on the engine. Apr 06, 2008

The seats are not as comfortable as you would think. The Vehicle it top heavy. The suspension seems lose. The acceleration is poor especially when one the highway. The auxiliary battery reserve is in sufficient for the amount of electronics that draw from it ( so son't try to watch a movie with the engine off). Beware of breaking the engine mounts (actually the rubber buffers I forget the name).

Moving out of a mini-van, this is a nice "crossover". Still has the three rows of seats but very limited cargo space. Great for around the town but a little cramped with four or five people and two dogs on a long trip. (Where does the luggage go?)
Performance is OK but the gas mileage is quite disappointing with AWD. I was hoping for a true cross-over but this one's a little too much like a prettied up SUV for my liking.Dec 03, 2007

Eliminate the oil cooler on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica
my 2005 Pacifica developed a leak of oil into the water cooling system. Research led me to a faulty oil cooler that is designed to fit in between the engine block and the oil filter, It has coolant water running thru it, and that coolant water was contaminated with engine oil. I replaced the oil cooler, and everything seemed OK for about a year. Then the problem reappeared,...oil in the coolant water. Many folks claimed that I likely had a bad head gasket or such. But my engine was running just great,...with no bad signs at the tail pipe, nor rough running that might accompany a head gasket issue. Could it possible be another oil cooler leak?...didn't want to believe that as the replacement had only been in there for a year!! I decided to 'by-pass' the oil cooler by disconnecting the water lines from the cooler body and just connecting them together. The after a week or so I began to leak oil out of the cooler bodies' open ports where the water use to go in and out. Obviously that new oil cooler was leaking oil again !!...confirmed today by a knowledgeable repair shop. I've been told that I can purchase some sort of an adapter that fills that space between the block and the screw on filter,....thus eliminating that oil cooler device altogether. But I am having trouble discovering the name of such a part, and where to buyer it?? (I don't really see a sense for an oil cooler on such a small engine that is that being used in racing conditions)
