I’ve owned 2 trailblazers so far, one was a year old when I got it and the other was 12 by the time I owned it. These SUV’s are good lower quality vehicles for regular driving but require a lot of maintenance like most vehicles do these days. Oil changes must be taken seriously by previous owner otherwise engine troubles if not failure will occur. Easy to work on even for major repairs but at higher miles or poor care in its life will require many repairs at the end of the vehicle lifetime. They ride nice and run great when treated properly. I would expect better gas mileage from an inline 6 in this range of years but on average they get about 16-18mpg combined. Oil changes require 7 qts of oil which most mechanics shops will try questioning so always check the oil after a change to ensure they did use what it needs to prevent running it too long with low oil. My current trailblazer has 200,000 miles on it and still running strong engine ...and the transfer case seized up about a year ago which was easily fixed by draining the gear line and replacing with new...then draining that a month later and replacing with additive and new lube...works wonderfully now. Transmission was slipping when I first got it but was easily repaired by changing the transmission filter and gasket and fresh transmission fluid. The online 6 comes with the variable valve timing solenoid on the passenger side of the engine ....this technology is what makes it possible to have both speed at take off as well as torque for pulling. It also makes it very necessary to keep the oil changed and clean to prevent the screens in the vvt solenoid from becoming blocked and possibly damaged. Once this happens, the engine will start having a series of issues from burning out coils to loss of power which it does by design to force the owner to repair it. All in all, I would feel safe of my elderly mother drive one but they aren’t a good candidate for anyone with a lead foot or into off-roading. They tow nicely but I have experienced while towing a small car in the winter time that with the extra work on the engine causing more heat in the block compared to the outside temperature, the block will start leaking oil where it has any parts that were not locktited on...for instance...oil filter and oil pressure sensor...just tighten them back up with some loctite if it occurs...I drive a lot of highway miles and it has handled them very well even at higher miles on both e body and engine...but I maintain it as recommended. It truly is a shame at the quality chevy has failed to offer in the vehicles they charge so much for. I expected much higher quality parts and technology when I first owned a 2005 trailblazer ls....I was let down.Jun 02, 2020

I like the overall size of this vehicle. I don't feel like I am driving around in a tank. Yet I feel very safe in it while on the road. I wouldn't mind getting another one for my wife. She enjoys driving it as well. Apr 21, 2015

I wasn't fond of the gas mileage when gas prices where high.

Despite all the cons, and the fact I'll never own another Chevrolet with this being the 3rd one that I've owned with numerous problems, I still like this SUV. I Have spent about $1500 on maintenance in the 7 years I'v owned it. I have replaced numerous items myself easy enough. Feb 25, 2015

The trailblazer is a great vehicle for a family. Plenty of space for the kids and for putting things in the back like groceries, sporting equipment, etc. Has tow package to pull a trailer. It is one of those vehicles that has many uses. The only problems is some repairs can be expensive but I guess they can on any vehicle. The thing I hate on the trailblazers is the secondary air injection system which is a feature that doesn't really do a whole lot and goes bad quite often. I don't what this to turn you off from this vehicle as it is probably one of the best all around vehicles to have as a family, but does have some minor problems.May 08, 2014

The smaller V6 engine is a plus. The body style is nice but if your in the mood for some mods you can give it your own look. Brake lights, Head lights, fog lamps, paint, interior products, anythinng you can think of.Aug 13, 2012

very comfortable to drive on long drives, brakes extremely well, has plenty of power,steers very well. I towed two cars back from out east on a trailer with no problem what so ever. Plenty of storage and holds five adults very comfortable. We have driven this truck to Florida and Virginia on vacation and it was a very pleasant drive. Very comfortable lumbar seats for long drives. Factory Bose stereo system holds 5 cd's, . Moonroof. This truck does not have any rust on it.

Great Vehical, Does well in all types of weather, Gets a little worse fuel economy than I originally thought it would, Normally 18-20 sometimes worse, sometimes better.
Plenty of Power for anything you would ever need to do with an SUV.

I like the trailblazer as a whole. Everything about it is great. The only downfall is that I can't put things, such as dirty, greasy, oily things in it due to the fact I don't want to mess up the carpet. Hunting in it is fine if you don't bag that trophy, or else you will be strapping it to the roof, which would suck. Nov 21, 2011

I like the fact that I can smoke little Japanese cars like Civics on the take off. The inline 6 on this vehicle puts out a lot of HP for an SUV. Hope to add a chip to increase HP and gas mileage.Nov 19, 2010

I loved the look of the vehicle especially with the two-tone leather.
I have had amny mechanical problems, less than 50,000 miles and the gas lines rotted, the under carriage is rusted, I have many electrical problems, something on the engine went...I got a bad one.

I love my SUV, I bought it august of 07' for my upholstery business, I spent a lot of time looking at trucks, and I never even thought of buying an SUV, well millers auto had a nice selection of trailblazers priced better than most of the trucks I was looking at, and this way I wouldnt have to worry about buying a topper so my projects wouldn't get wet. I love my truck. I bought it brand new back in 2003. It only had 13 miles on it. We have put close to 60,000 miles on it since then. It's been to Minnesota, Florida 4 times, Richmond, Virginia twice, along with many other places. It does GREAT in the winter. Aug 22, 2008

This is the very first vehicle I have bought that has given me no problems. It is strong, dependable and awesome in the snow. It is not the best on gas, but you can't expect 30 mpg from an SUV. It's is not the most fun to drive, but it has a smooth ride and is great for long trips or if you are traveling on rough roads. My grandma originally bought it but it was too big for her so my dad bought it off her. Now that the truck has racked up 72000 miles he wants to get a newer truck that will make pulling the boat easy. Its a dark silver with black trim down the sides. 2WD high / 4WD (auto, high, low). Grey interior. Seats 5. 400+ hp. American car so it does get a bit sticky with the problems (like the new transmission we just had to put in, and the shocks, and the struts). Overall, the Trailblazer is a very solid truck to drive. It is a little noisy with the windows up. Fuel mileage is not the best, although I believe it is a lot better than some of the other options out there in the same class. Performance is pretty good from the 4.2L, and has no problems pulling out and passing people.Jul 06, 2008

The 6-banger provides ample power for a truck this size. The interior, while not cushy, is VERY comfortable. The 4wd system is excellent...she hasn't gotten stuck once in the snow, despite my best efforts. I've had her for almost five years now and still love her like the day I bought her.May 15, 2008

Overall, it's a great SUV. It's a good size for driving around town, a breeze to park, but big enough to see over obstacles and carry all of your stuff with you. Even the base engine is plenty powerful, and there's bigger V8's if it isn't! The interior isn't very trendy or stylish, but you can get many luxury features, and it's very spacious for 4 and their luggage. Apr 19, 2008

We had it a month and the entire instrument panel went out! Chevy fixed it, but it took a week. We've also had a window stop working, several instrument panel lights come on periodically, and part of the trim inside a rear door came off! Now we have water pooling on the passenger side floorboard. We've only had it 2 1/2 years and it only has 40,000 miles. It's definitely our last Chevy! Jul 01, 2007

Car not going into gear
I have a 2004 Chevy trailblazer I have replaced the engine, ignition switch, ignition cylinder, steering wheel theft deterrent lock, oil pressure senser, the temperature senser, and the transmission was new when I bought the car (which was less than a year ago) yet my car now has the security feature on but today the car started throwing up fumes and a liquid from the bottom and threw the check engine light on and did not want to go in reverse, any suggestions of what it could be? (Car just came back from the mechanic last night)

Replaced the ignition after having the key not turn off when in park. The new ignition has two new keys; it turns on and all the lights, windows work, but it won’t turn over. It turned over with the old ignition and key. Suggestions???

fuel guage is erratic
2004 Trailblazer fuel guage seems to work when ignition is turned ON, but goes to full when engine started and will frequently drop to empty after that. After 15 minutes of driving it will go to correct reading..
