2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx LS FWDReview

Fun, Rather Practical — I bought the car used and have put about 15,000 miles on it in the year I've had it. I had the brakes replaced the first month (the dealer paid for labor and parts) and currently I am in the process of replacing the fuel pump. No major problems. The gas tank is not very stable in it and has been since I bought it, so eventually I am sure that I will have to replace that. I'm very happy about the space in it. I paid Kelly blue book price in Michigan for it, but feel like I could get a better deal out of state. Pros: Love how the back seats fold down. I can fit my skiis and college stuff all in one trip with this car. I like the sunroof and that it doesn't have an enclosed trunk space, so my car feels more open than me being stuck in a box. Cons: It gets between 20-30 mpg. I like to take road trips. Also, the gas tank does not lock. I wish the seats were made of some other material since they get dirty quick and I feel like I'm continuously cleaning them. ![]() Looking for a Used Malibu Maxx in your area?CarGurus has 100 nationwide Malibu Maxx listings starting at $1,695. |

Reliable And Trouble Free — Greatest car I have owned. Over 100.000 kilometers and no problems. I am 77 and have driven Fords, Lincolns, Pontiacs, oldsmobile. I would recommend this car to anyone that wants comfort with versatility. I do undercoat it every year to protect against salt and rust deterioration. Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: Greatest car I have owned Cons: no negatives |

Almost Luxury Quality And Worth Purchase — its got a light block 3.5 v6 with a supercharger tacked on. lots of performance capability comes with that. cost of ownership is fairly low unless you drive like a true leadfoot. car is definitely fun to drive as it delivers the moment you press the gas Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: fast Cons: outside needs new look |

Takin' It To The Maxx — I NOW HAVE 171,000 MILES ON MY 2004 Malibu Maxx. It has been a solid performer since day one. I average 28 mpg and can hit 32 on a long highway cruise. Easy on tires, each of the first two sets has gone over 80K miles. Love the huge rear seats, hatchback, and versatility of interior configurations. Also like the Tiptronic trans, strong braking, and remote start. This baby still takes off even with this mileage. I have had no factory defects and just do normal wear and tear items and maintenance. At this rate it should go well over 200K. Pros: Spacious interior, powerful yet efficient engine Cons: Somewhat vague electronic steering |

A Great Family Car With A Little Pep — For anyone looking for a great family sedan with a little performance and decent comfort. With a hatchback for some pretty decent space as well as a longer wheelbase allows for back seat passengers to have ample room. GM made the good advice of mating this heavier car with the 3.4 V6 engine. This gives the car some nice pep on the freeway.. it's not gonna blow anybody's mind.. but when the V6 kicks in at 70, you don't worry about running out of power. However gas mileage takes a hit. We where told it would get around 30mpg... observed.. 26.7 when my wife drives it. 28.1 when i drive it. It is reliable (other than plastic bits that keep falling off and an electrical gremlin that keeps taking out our power accessories). The radio is decent, the seats i find comfy, the remote start is great! and more pockets that we know what to deal with. Pros: Spacious Hatchback, Nice stock accessories, Good long distance cruiser Cons: Less than spectacular gas mileage, cheapy plastic accents, plastic bits keeps falling off. |

Great Gas Mileage, Comfortable Fit — For someone who's nice and tall, it accomodates more than enough leg room. The acceleration is comfortable and doesn't need to shift around too much to accelerate with the v6. Need to take it easy on rougher roads with potholes and big bumps. I'm still getting used to the hatchback look...... Pros: it's Scarlet and Gold, ~28mpg, excellent comfortable ride, price Cons: hatchback, suspension, bit of torque steer |

Solid Car But Not Amazing — Good reliability. Never had a problem with it. Only thing that doesn't work is the rear seat DVD screen it was busted before I bought the car. It has decent performance from the 3.5 gets good fuel economy on the highway upwards of 35mpg. But around town it doesn't due so well. It is a large car after all. The v6 provides good acceleration and is solid as a rock but it does sound a bit coarse and the electric power steering is too light at low speeds. Pros: Solid Reliability and good performance Cons: Some interor parts at flimsy and the V6 sounds coarse. |
