Family car or personal status symbol, the Audi A4 is Audi's most economically-oriented model, offering a precision driving experience with high-end comfort and elegance inside. And whatever your purpose, the A4 has a model to suit you -- from practical family wagon, to a more classic four-door sedan, or the let-your-hair down-because-it's-the-weekend convertible.

Finally, AWD is available in all A4s in 2004, as the Cabriolet gets a quattro version. Also new in the 2004 Audi A4 are standard tire pressure monitors in all trims. The 1.8T receives an upgrade to 16-inch wheels and you have the option of a 6-speed manual. That means all A4s offer standard 5-speed manual, and optional 6-speed manual or Tiptronic auto. The CVT, continuously variable transmission, is offered in only front-wheel drive A4s and not the quattro.

The starter A4 is the budget-minded 1.8-liter, 170-hp Turbo, available as either a sedan, wagon, or convertible. Though a lot less expensive than the 3.0-liter, 220-hp V6 models, it offers comparable standard features, such as dual climate control, power windows and locks, fog lights, keyless entry, and cruise control. Leather seats, power sunroof, and power adjustable front seats are options, but one complaint about Audi is that adding options or engine upgrades is expensive. All 2004 A4s feature front and side airbags, ABS brakes,and traction control, and Audi always gets rated highly for safety.

The 2004 A4 is a great sturdy family car, loved for its confident steering and handling and the quattro's surefire ability in snow or on rough roads. Most drivers suggest getting a quattro, and to always get a manual transmission. Inside, owners love the comfort and interior layout and all the standard features. The CVT auto tran is considered smooth once you get the hang of it. Drawbacks to the Audi A4 include a rear blind spot caused by the rear headrests, faulty cupholders, a sometimes suspect electrical system, wind noise, and an underpowered 1.8T. And unfortunately, expensive parts and unhelpful Audi staff also seem to be a trademark of Audi.

The only thing that I did not like about the car was the rubbery like spray that they use over the interior plastic components. It's hard to find an older Audi or VW that this covering has not started to come off because of normal wear and tear. You see it normally on the radio buttons and light switch etc. The other thing would have to be the starting acceleration, you don't see a power boost till the turbo kicks in at about 2 rpm or so. So trying to pull into traffic can be an issue sometimes. I have to say though once the turbo kicks in it defiantly gets you up in mph very quickly. I know that with the proper mods it would be 100% better, I just wish they would have done something more with this to start off with. Other than those things I have had fun with the car...we bought it as a family ca,r more for the gas milage of a smaller car, but still having something that was fun to drive. Even though it is on the smaller size it still fit my 11 year old and 2 year old in a car seat and two adults well. We had to go to a larger car since we are expecting our third, and three in the back won't fit in the Audi. It's comfortable to drive on longer trips, it is quiet inside as well, with a great sound system for being stock. I never had and problems with blind spots in the car, its always been clear for view out of all windows for traffic and your surroundings. The trunk space is surprisingly roomy for a smaller car too.Mar 07, 2013

Love the car, great to drive, Very comfortable on short and long trips, especially during the winter months. Currently has 106K miles and it still looks and drives like new. Only thing I strongly suggest is that you purchase on as a Certified Used. The warranty is better than new and your get much more for your money and won't loose so much on depreciation. Mar 27, 2012

I like everything about the car. Looks good runs good plus convertible for fun in the sun. gets great gas mileage ,comfortable to drive and handles very well in the turns I live in Florida and this car is a Chick Magnet LOL.Mar 05, 2012
