2000 Volvo V40 Reviews, Pricing & Specs

It´s a 1998 year modell, not 2000 that it says .. i couldn´t pick the original year.. A open air filter and shortshift is what i´ve done to it recently.. in about a few month,i´m going to tune the databox in the car, to optimize it . and i will get out about 30 hp of it. so i´ll get 236 hp instead of 205..an the torque will increase also, don´t remember how much. Later on i will paint the car, and fix the little rust i have on it..Jul 04, 2010

Although the V40 is a perfectly competent car--a very good car, even--nothing about its dynamic performance stood out, grabbed us, and said, "Drive me!" The V40 isn't an enthusiast's car, and it's not a Volvo enthusiast's car. Its interior looked like a Volvo, and the seats were definitely Volvo, but, overall, the car didn't have the quirky character one expects of a Volvo. This car is actually at Misubishi platform from japan/europe which volvo adopted and refined, which may explain its very sleek, sexy, un-volvo looks. Sadly for some, its performance doesn't quite live up to its sporty looks. The car's poor little 1.8l turbocharged engine could do with another .2 or more liters to help it along IMHO. Inside, its all volvo with a very functional and comfortable interior. Front seats are super comfortable and supportive leather. Rear seats are also supportive, but legroom is limited for some. Decent trunk size combined with fold down rear seats and fold flat fron passenger seat give this car a vast hauling capacity. On the road this car is very pleasant and effortless to drive. Its claimed 8.2 second 0-60 is not apparent due to the smooth shifting auto and quiet engine. Car seems much more lethargic than it actually is. Handling is fairly decent to harsh for its size, with more than average understeer and body roll. Fuel economy averages low to mid 20s with mostly city driving and AC on all the time. Engine is powerful, although slightly unrefined. The car handles well although the penalty for this seems to be a firm, bumpy ride on most road surfaces. Seats are very comfortable and the interior is generally well designed; exterior styling very nice. Some build quality is perhaps not up to the standard of other Volvos. Not as much load space as some other estates in the class but as a lifestyle workhorse it's excellent.Jan 06, 2008
