The 2000 Ford Expedition continued to be a favorite with drivers looking for a roomy full-sized SUV with an accent on comfort. For the 2000 model year, Ford made power adjustable brake and accelerator pedals a standard, which made the Expedition even more popular with soccer moms.
Three trim lines were offered for the 2000 Expedition: XLT, Special Edition and Eddie Bauer. The Eddie Bauer and Special Edition trim provided luxury features like leather upholstery and captain's-chair front seats; a new option for 2000 was a rear entertainment system.
Under the hood, the 2000 Ford Expedition offered two choices of engine: a Triton V-8 4.6 liter overhead cam with 240 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque, or a Triton V8 5.4 liter overhead cam that delivered 260 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. That kind of power enabled the Expedition to tow up to 8,000 pounds.
What's the bad news? Gas mileage, of course. 12 mpg city, 16 mpg highway (Triton 5.4); it's a hefty price to pay at the pump. But many drivers think the spaciousness, durability, and comfort of their Ford Expedition are worth it!

This car, I inherited from my aged father, who does not need to drive anymore ( at least thats what the department of motor vehicles may have told him after he tried driving to Lebanon from to he United States )
But this is a different story.
Anyway, to put it bluntly, this car has proven itself a very tough truck, it simply will not give up. Being twenty years in the family, it made it through thick and thin.
Snow, mountainous terrain, and desert, this, now true Ford classic, has always pulled its weight, and then some.
What this car is missing, is all modern features, such as Bluetooth, etc.
But it never tried to be marketed for this type of demographic even way back at the turn of the century ,c.2000, when everything tech was trying to come out.
That fact, only added to its uniqueness, and it was never an issue with my now aging father who was always a car affisionado ever since I was a kid forty, and then some, years ago.
A fantastic, rugged, reliable vehicle, and now great addition to my now budding family, this Ford truck now rests with me to rescue my family from the impending zombie apocalypse, UFO encounter, ...or perhaps an outing to an accasional hiking or camping get away.

This is one of the Best Full SUV ever, i don't believe that it is a gas slurping machine since it is a full sized SUV, we can't compared it to smaller SUV's or smaller cars. You can't expect a powerful SUV to consume lesser engine however it is the driving attitude that really matters, even if you have smaller SUV if you drive like a crazy rabbit it will consume more gas, Expi will give you more mileage if you drive properly and PMS it on time.May 19, 2014

Its fun to drive, you feel very safe, it handles great. I drive it every day. This vehicle has plenty of power. I am looking at purchasing another one.
Fuel economy could be better.

This SUV has it all. It drives like a dream. Great turn rad. I drove it straight from Denver to Chicago and my back was just fine (I'm 51 years old). MPG is on the low side but not horable. this large SUV does not drive like a large SUV. I owned a Avalanche and they called it the cowboy cadillac. I bought my Expedition used with 95,000 miles on it with plans to drive it across the country to pick up a 20' enclosed cargo trailer and all the stuff we left in storage when we moved from New England. After a quick trip to the local Ford dealer, where my Eddie Bauer was bought new, to have all the fluids flushed and changed along with a thorough check out and four new tires, I was off. My expedition and I completed the first 2700 mile leg of the trip in roughly 3 days. I picked up my 20' trailer and my father (who decided to join me for the return trip) and proceeded to the storage facility. Driving the Expedition towing the 20' trailer empty was a breeze, the big Ford hardly noticed the empty trailer out back. After loading the trailer with a few thousand pounds worth of nick-knacks and doo-dads collected over 15 years of marriage the story was definitely a different one. The following morning we set out for the 2900 mile journey home. Gas mileage on the way out averaged a fair 17.9 mpg cruising between 75-80 most of the time. On the way back towing that big trailer loaded down with "stuff" I had to spend a lot more time with OD off and speeds were generally down in the 65mph range, gas mileage dropped all the way to 9.5mpg (ouch). But whether it was climbing up and down the Appalachians on the first day, fighting 30mph cross winds in the Texas pan handle or if it was climbing to the continental divide as we neared the end of our journey, the big Ford never fussed and never faltered. We completed the 2900 miles in about 3.5 days with no drama thanks to the big Ford.
Since that journey my Ford has been used for transporting the dogs, home depot runs and generally hauling people and stuff to and fro. To date the Expedition has required nothing but regular maintenance and is now showing 109,000 on the odometer.Sep 27, 2012

Performance: has great performance when i get to drive and fix it. handles great breaks great as well when working again..
Build Quality: it mainly has been needing main repairs daily stuff.
Appearance: in perfect condition hardly any dents has few from weather but great.
Cost of ownership: good on gas as long as up keep is done on it.

Bought this vehicle used 2 yrs. ago with 132,000 miles to pull a 16' livestock trailer and haul our tack AND take along friends and their critters and tack. Needless to say there is plenty of room for everything and loads of power. It zips along fully loaded like it's unloaded. It is still very solid with only the occasional squeak or rattle.So far only one repair, that to a relay for the air suspension. We also love it as a family hauler, we can put the third row seat back in easily and haul the whole gang. Not sure I would have paid $40,000 plus for it new, but we sure like it as a used vehicle.Jul 15, 2009

Performance wise it is ok but you definitely want the 5.4 in it. It's a good solid vehicle have had it for a number of years and only had to change the oil, brakes, and tires. I like the outside appearance, but there is a ton of plastic inside. It's alright to drive. Got it because there was no way I was going to drive a mini van.Jun 08, 2009

I was normally not a Ford lover, but I was talked into it by my auto dealer. He assured me that i would love it and he was right. I fell in love with it. I have 3 kids and i have plenty of room for them to spread out. When my family comes around we no longer have to take seperate vehicles. Great truck for price. Very quick and powerful, only downside is problems with sparkplugs coming out of the head. Great ride, handles well for a truck, and easy to drive. Gas milage could be much better 10-15 for me. Reliability is very good however considering it has 140,000 miles on it and no major problems. However little things such as 1 sparkplug, and some minor electrical problems. My anti lock brakes need to be serviced, because the sensors need to be replaced, however it stops much better than with abs.Aug 31, 2008

I didn't want to buy this truck I was after a van that would fit in my garage and haul all 7 of us. I happened upon this one day and took it for a test drive , I fell in love, let me warn you the thing is thirsty at the pump and after we get the family in there isn't alot of room for luggage but most of the time I use it for short trips arouond town. We just bought this truck and we love it. Sure it's a gas guzzler alright but we live only a mile from work. In fact we've only burned a quarter of a tank in one and a half weeks! When my sister-in-law has her kids for the weekend, it's perfect for carpooling! We fit 2 bicycles, 3 kids, and 3 adults, and a remote control airplane in that beast when we went to the park this past weekend! It was powerful enough to haul a trailer, big enough to haul the kids and their stuff around. Got poor mileage, but it was hauling around a lot of weight. Lots of fragile plastic doodads that broke. Had a weird problem in the ignition system, took months to find and fix, but it was just a fluke for that particular car.Mar 30, 2008
