The 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe had a new exterior for the new millennium. An arched roofline gave the full-size SUV a more elegant look and increased headroom, while a streamlined front end added freshness. Inside the cabin, the 2000 Tahoe saw a few new design touches as well.
Three trim levels were available for the '00 Chevy Tahoe: a base model, LS, and LT. Two-wheel and four-wheel drive versions were offered for each trim.
Drivers and reviewers praised the 2000 Chevy Tahoe for its smooth ride, thanks to independent rear suspension. Compared to other truck-based sport utility vehicles on the market, the Tahoe handles more like a car.
That's no car engine under the hood, though. Like its cousin, the Chevy Silverado pickup, the '00 Tahoe boasts a choice of V8 engines: a 4.8-liter V8 with 275-horsepower output was standard, or drivers could upgrade to a 5.3-liter block clocked at 285 horsepower.

I have had two of them with very few problems up to 400500 miles. Parts are usually cheap and abundant. No lack of power for a gas mileage that isnt as bad as one would expect. An excellent blend of luxury and utility.Feb 22, 2022

I'm probably writing my review too early because I just drove it for the first time yesterday (for a few hours) and going on a long road trip tonight or tomorrow. The first thing I noticed was how nice it handled the S curves. (I live in a rural mountainous area.) The guys I bought it from have a Tahoe as well, and they say this truck is great for towing and very powerful. (That was a primary reason for my purchase.) It's very roomy and quite comfortable. Lots of storage space. Back seats fold down for larger cargo area. Drove nice on the highway. Smooth ride. Lots of little storage places. Air-conditioning can be set separate for front seat and back seat. Same gas mileage as older trucks. So far I'm quite happy with my purchase!Jul 31, 2012

Power: 5.7L, it will curb stomp you...even pulling a trailer
Looks: a little original and boxy, but I have no problem with retro
Maintenance: change the oil regularly, brakes, tires, and you're good to go.
Back Seats: Great, just not heated like the front. =/
Handling: sharp turn radius...for a truck of its size
Front Seats: Great. heated, a seat adjustment for everyone.
Reliability: Super, but i don't want to put my foot in my mouth.
Family Car: Yes, forget Soccer Van. Soccer SUV. =]
Fuel Economy: nothing like a Versa or Smart but good.
Price: CarMax
Cargo: this one doesn't have the third row seat, i could sleep in the back of this truck very comfortably.
Overall: couldn't ask for anything better, besides another one.Aug 22, 2011

Roomy Interior, touch button 4wd, theres a hidden center console in the back seats when needed, "optional" third row seating, and lots of storage space. Its great for hauling the family around or towing a trailer. Great for cruising the streets or off roading too.Dec 28, 2009

There is nothing I dont like about my baby, she rides nice, handles nice, is sooo comfortable to ride in, and fun to drive. I would own ten of these but I will never go back to being a car person again. Bigger is better, next is a suburbunOct 27, 2009

9 mpg, fun to drive off the road. cattle guard has saved me numerous times. upgraded exhaust, ari and oil filters with bilstein shocks makes it faster with a smoother ride. tough as nails, basically a tank on wheels, car accidents wont hurt it.Oct 14, 2009

Our 2000 Chevy Tahoe LT is decked out, leathered out, and sittin on 35's. It has a 5.3 liter v-8 4:10, rear end, chipped, throttle body spacer, and 12 inches of lift. This truck can ride and pull all day long. If i had to trade in the truck I would only for another Chevy.Aug 12, 2009

This truck was built for off-road and does it very well. Quality is only above average, but performance is great. Cost of ownership is reasonable. Big, sturdy, commanding and good vision of the road ahead of you. Great truck. I would highly recommend this truck to anyone looking for a big, roomy, all-purpose REAL S.U.V.Feb 08, 2009

The only thing I really don't like about my Tahoe is that the undercarriage rusts easily. Find a good Auto body man and have him protect it. Otherwise, it is perfect. I have never loved a vehicle like this. Plus it hauls our 28' camper. POWERJan 18, 2009

Tahoe's are by far my favorite truck. Especially this body style. Gas mileage is not their strong point, but if done right you can get a lot more out of it. Driving is great but sometimes the transmission may shift strange. Adding a corvette servo, an HD2 Shift kit and a rebuild will make it drive like a dream. mine is also the first year they came out with the new body style so it has a few things that could be upgraded.Nov 07, 2008

I love this Tahoe, it's nice. It gets alot of looks, however this SUV is bad on gas milage. It gets around 15 MPG. But I just recently purchased a huge Sea Ray Boat, and it's great on power/towing. And this Tahoe is just all around fun to drive, and it has plenty of room. Jul 09, 2008

It's the Tank....handles all conditions like a true rock star. 3 foot of fresh snow didn't slow this truck down. She was even able to eat up all the trails its set foot on, be it in Moab or just wheelin around in summit county, CO.Jul 06, 2008
2000 chevy tahoe 4l60e... i have a good strong reverse but no forward . the scantool reads i am in 3rd gear no matter what position i put the shifter to. what sensor or electrical component is the possible culprit?
My service engine soon light is flashing. About a flash per second. When at a stop, the car idles very rough almost to the point where the car shakes a little. Any thought of what that could be???
