Great Family Vehicle Lots Of Room. Great For Trips Decent Off-road 4x4 And A Reliable Commuter — the appearance is decent. headlights are efficent for the year it was made. 4X4 system is virtually bulletproof and a great family vehicle. inside build is a little plasticy wouldn't recommend towing a whole lot. fair power not so great fuel mileage i average 14MPG in the city

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Great in the winter, Super reliable never let me down and im in a -40 winter environment 4X4 system is dependable and when you put it in 4X4 its in no delay

Cons: belt driven timming system. water pump is in behind the timing belt on 3.3L engine and fuel mileage isnt the greatest

Very Good/great Transportation — Not great gas mileage but acceptable. 99 was voted one of Nissan's best year for great mechanical reliability. Great handling in snow, rain and modest off road activity. Has a good set of running lights for fog and darkened wooded areas. Real roomy and spacious for trips: gear, sporting equipment and can easily carry or tow boats, campers, canoes, kyaaks, bikes, and trailers.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Roomy, fast, handles great in snow and rough terrain, can carry loads, gear, grocery easily.
Looks like a cool ride with oversized tires.

Cons: not great gas mileage 22/17

My Second Pathfinder — My first Pathfinder was a '95, which I ran for ten years before the frame rusted out. Its replacement, a '99 early model, is much more car-like, albiet a large, heavy car. It is strong and well built, with no frame to rust. After a year and a half with the '99, and all maintenance completed, I would not hesitate to drive this vehicle cross country.

Pros: Smooth ride, comfortable interior, decent cargo capacity, big tires and four wheel drive for those off-road times.

Cons: Gas mileage. 12 mpg in city driving.

'99 Pathfinder, 4wd Le — I very much enjoyed my pathfinder. Nice interior, a little cramped in the back (but I didn't sit there), nice stereo (not compatable w/ ipod/iphone). At slow speeds, it worked really well on hills, however, it was a gutless wondering at highway speeds going over passes. If you're a flat-lander or will be in town w/ no significant climbs, a very nice vehicle. If highway passes, skiing, etc... consider something with a bit more guts than a 3.0L v6.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: interior

Cons: highway speed hills (mountain passes)

Cargo, Off Road, People Room. — The engine is well powered for the car, with nice gears and a short final drive (4.35?) to compensate for the weight. The fit an finish of the interior is superb. No part of the car has failed on me. 150000 miles, no chronic problems, save for a mysterious vibration i cant seem to locate. The ride is comfortable, and the suspension take bumps and dings very well. Speed bumps and tables are no match for struts on all wheels. I hit a speed table, got a foot of air, and still didnt bottom out the suspension. Ride height is great. Body leans on tight turns, but its not a sports car.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: All weel drive. Great Ride height.

Cons: High rollover risk (cant say i have.) So-so gas milege.

Great Buy — I love how it drives, it may be an SUV but it feels light like a car. The gas milage is ok, not to great but its not horrible. Pathfinders are built like tanks, my pathfinder has taken so much abuse and just smiled at me. Its very capable offroad, seems to float over mud. I expected a jeep wrangler to outperform but it needed a tow from the pathy. I plan on buying another pathfinder.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Very Veristile

Cons: N/A

Purchased my 1999.5 Pathy new in ‘99 in the Northern California valley. This car has taken countless trips up to our family cabin all the way up in the Sierra Nevadas, fully loaded with kids and gear. Driven through rough dirt roads (some were’t even roads at all:) ) in bad conditions. Handled it flawlessly. 4x4 is the only way to go on this truck, trust me. Tows like a champ. Provides a reasonably comfortable ride for all passengers on bad roads, but seats could be a little nicer. Exterior styling is perfect. Ridgid, but tasteful. Interior is nicely designed, but could incorporate a more space-efficient layout with seats down. Alright. On to reliability. This car is, by far, the most dependable vehicle I’ve ever owned. I’ve had it since it was bought new, and have NEVER had a single engine problem with it. Approaching 300,000 miles, running strong. This car reminds me of the old Toyota LandCruiser ads from the 70s. “Built Tough To Get You There... ...And Back.” Emphasis on the ‘and back’. Seriously, this truck is my buddy. It’s like my friend that goes everywhere with me, because it has the ability to go anywhere. And that’s why I’ll never own another car: because I won’t need to. Ever.

Power Ranked 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD worse.
"Even with a small 3.3L V6, this vehicle puts out more than enough power to deliver a durable performance, both on and off road. The Jeep has an outstanding engine as well, but not very capable off road, and far less reliable. "
Front Seats Ranked 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD better.
"Seats are leather in this base model Laredo, and have electronic lumbar adjustments, as opposed to the Pathfinder’s cloth seats with manual lumbar. "
