The W129 from 1999to 2001 are the best cars from MB in the last 30 Years . Small and little problems. Made in Bremen with much handwork. It will be a reel classicer, and the prices will rice- If You really want a car without problems , You must buy a Honda or a Lexus , but than you never get a classic car. The prices are high in Germany, Tell you this because I have Worked With Mercedes in 45 years. Best regaerds from Norway.

Wonderful Roadster, Comfortable And Fast — Very nice car, which will only increase in value if well taken care of, strong engine, comfortable seats, safe, super looks ! 3 cars in one, was way ahead with esp, roll bar full automated soft top, integrated seat belts, bose sound system

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Car from before the daimler chrysler saving era, real soft top, quality leather, superb looks, engine is cream smooth, for ever a classic, very comfortable

Cons: No back seat, soft top can only be opened at a complete stop

R129 Sl500 — Overall a great car, affordable now as a used car, great touring car that you can drive hours in and feel comfortable. Fit and finish are very high quality, timeless styling and with the right set of wheels is a real head turner. Mine came with a Panoramic glass hardtop from the factory, a highly desirable option.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Styling, build quality, value purchase, fun to drive,

Cons: maintenance can be costly

Fun Car To Drive! — It's the hottest 1999 SL500 I've ever seen. Smoothe and quiet at 100+ speeds. Road car for sure, or just cruising with the top down and people staring! Bose stereo is standard with cd changer and satellite radio. Has hard and soft tops!

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Fast for a two ton car. Head turner. Very comfortable.

Cons: Rear soft top window yellow...

Great First Car — This is a really fun handling car and can get great gas milage if you drive it with out your foot on the floor the whole time! the power is there when you need it because of its big 5L V8.

Pros: Its a fun a fast car

Cons: Expensive to maintain

Awesome Convertible And A Blast To Drive. — I always wanted a SL500 and bought one 6 years ago. For the most part this car has been extremely reliable. I am a mechanic and maintain it very well and feel this is the most important thing no matter what kind of vehicle you own. About the only problems I have had with this car were a speaker going out and changing the strut supports which was a very inexpensive repair. The most expensive maintenance item was servicing the transmission, which was about $250 for fluid and parts. Mercedes used to have a "sealed transmission" which supposedly never needed to be serviced. After researching this I found out that many transmissions of this type ended up failing so I elected to service it and it is still trouble free. The gas mileage is surprising good as well, with mild mannered driving you can expect 23 to 25 MPG on the freeway. If you are thinking of buying a used SL make sure it has been serviced and taken care of. Buying a fixer upper SL is not a good idea. The parts and repairs can be very expensive.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Very reliable car, with fairly low maintenance costs. Handles great for its weight and a lot of fun to drive. Braking is great and responsive. With the windscreen up you hardly know the top is down except to the sun on your head. Acceleration is very good, feeling like you were shot from a sling shot.

Cons: Headlights are not the best. I have the standard headlights and not the Xenon ones. The plastic on the rear window has developed a crease.
