Most Reliable Vehicle I've Ever Owned! — left me stranded 1 time due to the timing belt breaking. a cheap fix at $300. That was water pump and everything while they had it apart! You really need to get this truck! 4 cylinder 5 speed manual trans is the best package! I get as much a 32MPG! that's driving like my grandpa, but who cares? Saves me gas!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great truck starts EVERY TIME! Looks good, and handles well. Interior is sufficient even on longer trips. Base model has no frills but it works all the time. Nothing electrical to go bad! Parts are ridiculously cheap! I mean, compare them with about any other vehicle and they are almost always the cheapest! My calipers on the fronts cost me -$10. That's right! Napa paid me to return my old ones more than the new ones cost. Final price $10 they owed me! How cool is that?

Cons: Stiff ride forces you to take corners and drive differently. No 4x4 drive. But that's no fault to the truck. Handles surprisingly well in snow with my quad in the back all winter long. I joke that it's my back-up ride "just in case!" Timing belt went out at around 147,000 Miles, but I chalk that up to age and wear and tear. besides, the repair was only $300! can't beat that with a stick!

Great Single Family Vehicle — I want a 4 door 4 wheel drive, its a great vehicle to drive daily, great on gas mileage, roomy enough to do the work of a full side. Small seats in rear extended cab, plenty big for grocery or hauling small items

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great commuter vehicle

Cons: Small

Love It — Great little truck, sorry to see that ford stop making them. Would buy a new one if they were still being made. Flex fuel engine MPG can be a little tough on the old wallet. 120,000 and still going strong.

Pros: Work Hourse

Cons: MPG

Good Reliable Truck For Work Or Play — I love this truck it has provided many good years of service. Overall, this will make a good reliable vehicle for work or play. The only reason it is being sold is to replace with small car for my daugther.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: This  truck was everything I expected and still provides a good reliability ride.

Cons: No negative comments.

Great — I bought this truck for me because I wanted to be able to haul plants, gardening things, etc. and only had a family car. General has run great for us over the years. This is a great truck. Highly recommended.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: I like everything about this truck

Cons: The back seats are not comfortable. Developed a leak in the back over the driver side backseat.

Buy Exactly What Kind You Want, Modification Is $$$$ —

i have a 1999 ford ranger ext cab stepside v6 3.0 and i must say it is an excellent vehicle but it makes me sad to drive it when i know it has so much more potential, ive taken it to 85mph with quick acceleration but once the power limiter kicks in it makes it apparent, if i had a performance chip it would show its potential. the v6 in it SHOULD put most cars to shame. i have researched it post-purchase and found anything other than 1995-1997 and 2007+ rangers have their major problems, mine imparticular were transmission problems (when changing gears it revs high then KICKS into gear, throwing you back and sounds like the flywheel is taking a major beating!) and i had a freeze plug in the back corrode and blow the enginedue to poor metal composition (4" space, had to take head off to get it). the stock suspension sucks, if i had an extra $400 i would replace right away. I know it sounds like i hate this truck but i really dont, other than its peeves it is a reliable truck and i can personally say i am very happy with the purchase.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: pushes its own limits, powerful small truck, spacious in front, versatile, hualed 12 hay bales in stepside at one point, nearly ready for dragstrip stock, good on gas for a truck (up to 25 highway)

Cons: 1999 transmission is horrific, stock suspension squeaks at slightest bump, freeze plugs tend to corrode blowing engine(rebuilding mine now $500), power limiter cripples its potential, turning radius= to F250

A Great Door Banger For People With To Many Toys — This has been a great car for me. I have used it for hauling up to 8 full size mtn bikes, slept in the back on ski trips, traveled all over the NW in all kinds of weather. Its weaknesses of mileage and road noise are more than made up for its modest price tag holding true to the Ranger stereotype of reliability as a light truck. It will tow in a pinch, but if you are going to pull anything heavy or far load the box with some weight to help the ride.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Cargo space for a light truck, has been low maintenance, reliable, don't need a jack to get under and change oil, good power (more than needed)

Cons: kind of load on the HW, mileage, plastic dash looks cheap, shifts in/out of 4wd a little slow for my taste.

Good Transportation — overall - 5 stars performance - 5 stars build quality - 5 stars appearance - 3 stars, paint integtrity not good Overall reliability has been excellent and costs very little to keep. Could get better gas mileage, but then you give up performance, so guess it is a great truck

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Power and fun

Cons: Hood paint is oxidizing
